What's the best HS/Fan for an Intel CD2 E6600 on a Asus P5B deluxe in a Antec Sonatta II case. Lookin to spend 30-50 bucks and will be overclocking.
thanks

My view of things -- even with the TDP values on these new C2D processors of around 65W, saving on $10 or $20 between choices of two coolers doesn't make a lot of sense if you are planning to over-clock, and the cheaper cooler has a higher thermal resistance.

You might compromise cooling for lower noise, but a more efficient cooler will need less airflow, and therefore generate less noise.

If you spend $30 on a cooler that provides an idle-to-load spread of 8C, and you could spend $50 on a cooler with a spread of between 4 anc 5C, wouldn't you spend the extra $20 if you were going to OC the processor?

Scythe Infinity ($50 with 120mm fan, silent and strong cooling for OC)
Sunbeam Tuniq Tower ($50-60 I think it has 120mm fan not sure you might have to buy extra, also excellent performance).

Tuniq Tower if you can find it
Scythe Infinity
Titan Amanda
Thermalright Ultra 120

All are top HSFs, give or take a few degrees. You can't go wrong with any of them really.

The Zalman 8500 can be added to the list as well. The best appears to be the Tuniq Tower 120 but its production has stopped due to factory machinery problems.

I'm actually looking for a good cooler for the same application. I was planning to use the Zalman 9500. Would this be a good choice or would another HS/fan combo cool better for the same money?

But there's no twinkling lights or bragging rights! WA WAH!
It only weighs 520 g...Come-on! A HSF has to scale-out at near a kilo to be worth anything on this board

Much cheaper http://www.provantage.com/arctic-acfzp7~7ARCT004.htm

whats the difference in these besides price?

The scythe mine for $35 @newegg is a great buy, it will beat the freezer 7 pro by like 1 or 2c but more in dba. Just about the performance of an si-120/128 but for $15 less. The $21 freezer is the BEST value however. Go for it!

I don't mean to answer for the guy, but there are a LOT of concave C2D chips out there!

We built two identical machines for a guy in Vegas, and there was a 20º C difference between them. Had we known what the problem was, at the time, the hot CPU would have been RMA'ed.

Anyway, if you've got one of these stinkers, and your temps are in the 50º range, I can see where it would be hard to believe someone else is hitting high 30s...

He stated it was a "load" temp. What kind of load? Playing a game? or running Orthos/Prime95? I'm OC'd to 3.2GHz on an E6400, and my idle temps are 36c with a Scythe Infinity. My load (Orthos) temps are about 46c. That must mean his has to idle in the 20-30c range and I find that hard to believe.

The temps are running 38-40c runing 1 core at 100% for folding and I was Ripping and decoding a DVD at the same time. I will say that I live 1/4 mile from the beach and it has been in the mid 60f range here. I would post a screen shot... but I am ashamed to admit I don't know how
