my favorite meal is from the night market of the streets of Taipei. Give me an oyster pancake, bah-wun (meat ball), mince pork over rice, and pepper steak.

Letter J veggie at La Tolteca. It's my favorite meal at my favorite restaurant. They're a regional Mexican chain in DE, MD, and maybe NJ

It's hard to pin one meal down.

but based on expenditures, food, and company i would have say bone's steakhouse in Atlanta. I ate there freshman year of college with 4 friends as a birthday dinner. We ended up spending ~$350...and that didn't include any wine or drinks. at that point in my life, it was certainly the most I have ever spent on dinner for myself.

since we couldn't drink at the restaurant, we had a few before we left...meaning we had to take a cab there. I believe that was about an extra $50 to the total.

but it was an awesome time. food was great and they also had excellent service. haven't been back, but i should return at some point.

Terrible experience at craftsteak however. Killer, KILLER risotto w/wild mushrooms but the rest of the meal was very meh, with service that was not up to par.

Possibly the best would be at Mama's Fish House on Maui. Every meal I've ever had there gave me "mouth orgasms." (or maybe it was all the Scorpions I drink there )

Wow, that is what I was going to say. Mama's is amazing and the whole family enjoyed it. It also has a great location.

Love Maui!

Probably Spago in Maui when I stayed at the Four Seasons. I was lame enough to order a glass of milk with dessert.

I think I have 3 tied for top honors

corned beef and cabbage with home fries at a now-defunct diner

wrapped chicken quesadilla with cheese tomato lettuce and small potato "squares" at Bear's Lair in UC-Berkeley

two eggs, ham, and greasy home fries at Anne's near Berkeley

Fusco's in Endicott, NY. We had just moved to NY from the midwest and Fusco's was the first real Italian food I had ever had.

There was, and hopefully still is, a steak house in Fairfax, VA. It had the most flavorful, juicy, and tender steak I have ever had.

A Dim Sum and regular Chinese restaurant in San Franciso's Chinatown served the best Chinese food I have ever had.

I have a list, not a favorite. Props to BoomerD for Mama's. I think I had the Ono there and it was prime.

In no particular order, except nbr 1

1) Chili Crabs, Newton Circus, Singapore
2) Maui Taco, Maui Ho'okipa fish burrito
3) Kula Lodge, Kula, Maui (I proposed to my wife at sunset)
4) The pizza place at 505 Front Street for the Garlic and Clam pizza
5) Some pub near Queen's Cross in London - Steak and Kidney pie
6) My wife's lasagna
7) High Tide Harry's in Orlando - it is all good
8) Spring Deer in Kawloon - Peking Duck
9) The Maine Diner - The chowder... I have the recipe and even with substitutes, the folks at work want me to make it.
10) Under the bridge to Paradise Island, Nassau, Conch Salad.
11) Fogo de Chao - Buckhead, Atlanta, GA - OMG - roast EVERYTHING
12) Roman Bath's near Estepona, SP. Lamb to die for and Brandied Raisins for dessert (Spanish raisins dried in the sun nearby - with seeds, but the size of quarters AND they will make you tipsi.)
13) Arni's - Estepona, SP, Chicago BBQ in Spain
14) Paella and mussels, Marbella, SP, along the waterfront looking at the $$$ yachts.
15) "Fried Whitebait" Unknown... about 15 miles SW of Estepona in a place we stumbled into.
16) Smoked salmon by a river in NW Scotland. I had a ESB I think. We bought some smoked salmon at a place and had it near a river amongst the heather.
17) The korean bbq place in Hawai'i Kai along the waterfront. Bul-go-gi plate lunch is ONO.
18) Not there now, but the stacked breakfast in the 'Mexican' restaurant near the bridge to the North Shore, Oahu.
19) Eggs and Roe omelet - Lighthouse Diner? Buxton, NC

And a tribute to Mack and Marie's in Key Largo. JFK eat there. So did I as my picture, when I was 3, was on the wall, eating corn on the cob. Closed at least 35 years now. So, if you have a favorite place, tell all your friends and GO, or it may go away.

I have heard about that place. Last I heard, the customer list leaked out and they are hunting the customers with ninjas and turning them into cat food. Sorry.

In the meantime, amuse yourself with this book

Cooking Alaskan

Recipes include whale, seal, muskrat, beaver (the rodent kind), moose, etc. I have a copy at home.

It's close, but my best meal was at a small restaurant in Bordeaux called La Remise. It's nice comfy hole in the wall on a narrow pedestrian street. The main venue is actually so small that the five of us had to eat in the dining room across the street. The walls were almost completely covered with shelves of wine. We had a really hot waitress. Prices were great (you had a choice between a menu 15 or 18 euro). I think I spent about 25 euro, including a martini for an aperitif and 1/3 of a bottle of wine. I had duck in a cranberry sauce which was mindblowing. I almost started to cry near the end because I didn't want the meal to be over. We also got all of the delicious bread we could eat. I think I had a cobbler for dessert which was good but nothing outstanding. Of course, Bordeaux is famous for its wine and only slightly less well-known for its duck (oysters are more popular) so it was bound to be a great meal. These elements, combined with good company (five of us guys studying abroad 2 weeks into the trip) and hitting on the hot waitress with our terrible French, make this the best meal I've ever had.

In a close second comes La Bodeguita del Medio, a Cuban restaurant in Prague. The restaurant itself is really cool because it makes you feel like you're in Havana. I had a ribs and chicken platter with garlic bread that was out of this world. I split an appetizer, which I believe was an artichoke dip with great little pieces of bread, with my friend. That too was pretty damn delicious. I ordered a negroni, which was fantastic, but the cool thing was that they served mojito buckets with half a dozen 3 foot straws hanging out. This meal ran me about $40 I think.

Long Island Iced Tea from a local bar* + a slice of cheese pizza from a local NY style pizzeria** right next to it.

I don't know what it was about that drink, maybe the alcohol cutting the pizza grease or just the flavorful mix of it complementing the pizza, but damn that was the BEST slice of pizza I've ever had in my life.

*an enjoyable LI Iced Tea, but not the best I've had on its own

Too many good meals to pin down.

I really enjoyed the food I had in Bavaria. The sausages and meats were are very good and sitting out in a beer garden nursing a Radler or Hefeweisen was a great time.

In Hong Kong most of the food is pretty good, there's a place out in Yuen Long called Daaih Wing Wah (Great Prosperity) that I really like. The dim sum here is excellent as expected.

I never had the money to hit the Chicago steakhouses but Hot Doug's up on the north side has some of the best God damn sausages I've ever had. I'll plunk down for duck fat fries and four sausages whenever I stop by there. The Indian food I have had in Chicago is really good too. The deep dish at Lou Malnati's is probably the best pizza I've had. There are some really good thin crust in Chicago too. Pat's was one I think and Baccino's was another that I really loved.

The barbeque I have had in Georgia is excellent. I can not find anything that can come close north of Tennessee. A place called Country's in Columbus is pretty good. There are better but it is a lot more... ummm.... accessible to most people.

And I always enjoyed cooking a ribeye at home with a baked potato or two and a good hefeweisen beer. That was always a good Sunday meal.

Though not necessarily the best, among them:

Steak Tartare with quail egg and capers from a grocery store called Draeger's in Menlo Park, and the same dish from a French restaurant

Orgasm Roll from a sushi restaurant
