Hey there,

I'm about to buy a brand new AMD64 3500+ and I'm pretty unsure on what MoBo to buy in order to get the best of it, either stock or later if OC'ed.

My best regards.

Take your time and read this. See if you have any questions after that. I bought my socket 754 mobo after reading Anandtech's 754 guide and I sure am happy with my purchase

Very apreciated for the link globalcitizen, I've already read it and its pretty elucidating, thanks.
Of course I've not made my mind yet, Giga-Byte GA-K8NSNXP or MSI K8N Neo2-54G Platinum, of course Asus rev.2 should be better than both.

My best regards.

we're in the same boat: want a new system and are itchin' to buy. i on the other hand will wait for the new nForce4 board to come out. i'm not particularly interested in the SLI feature, but the nForce4 ultra has some nice goodies that the current 939 boards don't. why not just wait a few more weeks before you buy?

As a matter of fact I already peeked into nforce4 features, they are indeed delicious.
I am waiting some time, particularly for the money to pop in in my bank account.. so, this may give me the time to see nforce4 out for sale and opt for it.
Never the less, a good pov kamaboko, thanks.

My best regards.

If you must choose from the current selection, get the asus a8v. The others a quirky.

After some reading and comparison I found that MSI Neo2 Platinum seems to be the best MoBo to fit a skt 939. Still, if anyone have something to add or constructive critics lets hear them

My best regards.

MSI's quality control and support are problamatic, so while the board may be the best 939 one out if it works (though the epox seems to be about the same), if it doenst work dont expect much help from msi.

The Abit AN8 Fatal1ty (Nforce4) will be the best gaming/overclocking 939 board when it comes out. They removed a lot of the unused ports and added the best cooling system I've seen on any mobo. They aren't giving out much info yet, but I've been sold on it for months.

Here is some pics of the socket 775 version of the Fatal1ty: http://forum.abit-usa.com/show...?s=&threadid=67125

It should be worth the wait.

Anyone know if the Fatal1ty comes in socket 939?

I've been looking to build a new computer too, but it seems PCIe/SLI/Nforce4 won't be out till december-ish, And I really can't wait much longer. (Its been about 3 months now -_-)

Really looking foward to EQ2, Comes out on November 8th.

As far as I can tell the only difference between NF3 & NF4 is the addition of SLI.And that means having to buy 2 cards. Can you afford 2 6800GT's @ $400 ea. ?

TimTheEnchanter: What ports were remved in NF4 vs NF3?I don't see any I/O port difference other than Abit's proprietary sound I/O rider card/slot.

And OMG,that Abit Fatal1ty boards cooling solution like a very quiet solution.LMAO Ever attend a Saturn V launch?

I think I'm going to hold off and get an nforce3 board. I figure when the 4's hit the shelf, the 3's will drop like a rock in price.

there is some talk that nforce4's will be available as early as next week, though I dont epect them to have a significant impact on nf3 pricing as anyone who intends to keep there current graphics card will have to stick wiht nf3, so nf3 will continue to be made (a new ones will probably show up from asus dfi...) for a while.

if you decide to go w/ msi neo2, good luck. I went through 2 of those boards after purchasing a8v. I finally went back to asus a8v, when I realized how good I had it in the first place!

I may be wrong, but I heard nF4 chipset is totally new designed from nF3. And you don't have to buy 2 of 6800GT PCI-E right now, anyway. You can just get one of something like 6600 GT now for 200 bucks, and one or two years later when you need better GPU, you can just get another one for cheaper. And also, consider PCI-E, which will be mainstream soon or later. I guess it's worth to wait (and actually I do )

Nf4 is not really a complete redesign, it is an incremental improvement. It has sata II support which is useful, it has a slightly improved firewall, and it has pci express. You are correct in saying that even with a sli board (not all nf4's are sli) you don?t need to buy two cars right away. I wonder if ATI will license the technology from NVIDIA and make cards that can work in nf4's with sli, if they don?t, or don?t create their own version it will be interesting to see what happens in the high end graphics market over the next few months.
