What's the best PC game you've played recently?

I'm still stuck on Day of Defeat: Source and have been for about a year and a half. Next on my list are Oblivion and Stalker. I'd like to find these used so if any of you are sick of either and want to unload them let me know.

i'd love to ... i put 1300 hours into Oblivion and it's expansions ... loved it and am sick of it
--also STALKER was *awesome* ... 'tied' as my favorite FPS [ever] ... but no replay value

BUT ... i am still concerned that there will be mods and expansions coming for both games
--they are that good that talented fans are even making great content ... supposedly the vehicles will be available to drive in STALKER [!]

you need to trade and/or find someone who didn't like these games ... they have also been on sale ... off-and-on

and once Games is split off from SW forum, i will suggest a permanently 'stickied' post to *trade* games
--bypassing FS/T with much less restrictions for a trade

Last week I bought half life 2 and played it for the first time.

The Max Payne games are great. I generally don't care for 3rd person games, but I was genuinely sad when I finished each of them. Great story, and very fun. You really get drawn in to what's happening in game. That doesn't happen for me very much.

for a really excellent "twitch shooter" with real *depth* - undocumented weapons combos with unlockable levels and multiple endings ... there is PainKiller/BOoH

MPayne was a cool series ...
--what happened to MaxP3 ?...
do i have to play it on hardboiled to find out?

Quake 3 Arena.

Sad, I know. Nothing newer can keep me as interested as Q3A CTF can.

When there were more UT2k4 Onslaught servers, I'd play that a lot, but that's the only other game in the last several years now that keeps me interested and has the fun factor.

I just got Sid Meier's Pirates! the other day. I can feel an addiction coming on to say the least.

Half-Life 2 was the best single-player.
Quake series (3 and 4) for multiplayer, with a little bit of UT04 in the mix.

About 5 years or something behind the times but I just found Independence War 2 and apart from the fact the script reads like it was written by a 10 year old the game really kicks some ass.
