I have been extremely impressed with my i950 - and the i960 is supposedly even better. People walk into my cubical at work and see all of the photos that I have up and always ask if they are digital or not. They look pretty much perfect. Canon's newer printers are not quite as fade resistant as either HP or Epson's latest offerings, but if you cover the image with plastic or glass you can avoid that problem. Alternatively, I'd recommend experimenting with papers.
I've had some problems with 3rd party ink clogging on my Canon i950. I tried two different companies and both resulted in problems with clogging and with the ink detecting mechanism not working correctly. Now I just stick with Canon ink.
For paper I like the Red River Polar gloss paper for best bang per dollar.
