$150 spent more than a DECADE ago on my PC speakers.

They still perform beautifully.

Yeah. That was another thing I purchased this year, but I'm still not done. Just before the house, I put in about $2500 of equipment, a couple alpine amps (mono and 4way digital), 12" Alpine Type R sub, and 2 sets of 2-way 6x9's. One of the amps went bad so getting that replaced under warranty, and decided to get the Alpine DSP added as well. Waiting for the parts now to finish the install. Thinking of getting the trunk dynamatted, but we'll see. I've already spent too much.

nice. i went alpine HU + comps with JL subs/amps when I was in it. I loooooooooooooove alpine head units. time correction > *

Corksport Rear Sway bar. The difference in feel is amazing and the car rotates much more freely around tight corners and body roll is reduced noticeably. Best $200 mod ever.

which ones?

The JBL ones? I'm trying to remember what the top tier ones were in the early 2000's

I don't like JBL systems = too much bass and not enough 'quality' mid and crisp highs. Nvm, I'm confusing it with Klipsch.

Boston Acoustics BA4800

These speakers are surprisingly heavy and fill up my entire living room and more.

I paid $5 for Half-Life in 1999. Between Half-Life and associated free mods like Team Fortress Classic, Counter-Strike, Frontline Force, Action Half-Life, Firearms, Day of Defeat and others, I probably got better than 25,000 hours of entertainment out of that $5. Pretty good ROI as I see it.

I also paid ~$500 for my pool cue ($270ish for the butt, $230 for a low-deflection shaft... giggity), and it's brought me many hours of entertainment, the majority of my current friends and my wife. There's something to be said for that.

Going from an Android phone to a Blackberry Z10. Thing is awesome and built for communication. Unless you need a phone for games, it is the way to go.

My house - great price for it; it cost only a small fraction of our combined annual salary, and is worth quite a bit more (though I've put quite a bit of money into it.) Not for sale though; unlikely I'll ever move to a new house.

For smaller things, the cider press I got a couple years ago. Paid $125 IIRC. I've seen similar ones for a couple thousand, as antiques. It's from the 1800's. I've seen some models that sell today for hundreds more than what I paid - and they suck compared to mine. Mine has a much better output. Closing in on 70 gallons of fresh cider this season, at a total cost of $zero to make. 8 bushels of apples on the porch, and at least 3 more loaded trees that I plan to get apples from (about 8 more bushels) = 48 more gallons on the way.

What do you do with all that cider? Sell at the farmer's market?

I liked the They Hunger mod. Nobody makes good single player mods anymore :^(

car audio is super fun until your car gets jacked.

At first I thought you were gonna say "until you lose your hearing".

I used to have a fairly decent car stereo system; dual 10" subs, 4 x 300W RMS speakers, several amps and a cross over in the trunk to drive it all. Years later and my ears are still ringing...

Ever? Probably my house. 2013? This bad ass assault drill:

It's not something I use every day but the times I needed it while working on my basement it saved me hours of time.

Though this comes in a close 2nd place because while that drill is awesome, it wont be getting as much use as this once I turn it up:

- scooter: go from A -> B with minimal energy and money spent

Which scooter did you get? I bought a scooter this year for a toy to tinker with. I don't commute on it, but I did a bunch of mods and stuff to it. Then I bought a motorcycle and I hardly ride the scoot much at all.

i got an anemic honda metropolitan (got a killer deal on it). as soon as i get some money together i'm upgrading to a vino 125. then when i get some money/experience together, i'm passing the scooter down to the fiance and buying a real bike.

at least, that's the current plan.
