What's the best turn based multiplayer game?

Hey All,

A few friends and myself are looking for a turn based game to play together. We are all geographically far apart, so we were thinking that a turn based game would be a good way to get together, have some fun and have time to chat every once and a while.

What are your favorite turn based games that offer internet multiplayer?

Laser Squad Nemesis was done by the folks behind the orginal X-COM / UFO Defense, but I've never tried it myself. Google for info.

Nah, why not an FPS game. One that springs to mind is
Adrenaline Gamer (HLDM mod, be good if you all had Steam), it hosts alot of gamemodes. But one that would suit the turn based would be the Arena gamemode:

Arena: The one on one mode. When a player dies he goes to spectator mode
and the next in line is spawned after a countdown. If you just want to
watch you can change your ready status in the commandmenu
(ready/notready).

No, it's a turn based, where your worms are trying to take out the other team's worms with grenades, shotguns, rockets, air strikes, and numerous other weapons. It looks cartoon-ish in nature, but there's plenty of strategy involved.

Worms is indeed great, but it's fairly real-time... about 30-45s per turn.

I still think Alpha Centuri is pretty cool .. a little dated, but still really neat. It's pretty complicated, that may be why I really enjoy it.

Check out the Combat Mission series (Afrika Korps being the newest). Very good strategic game in which you fight either real or fictional battles in World War II. It has a very realistic physics model and, although the graphics need to be updated, it is a greeeeeeeeeat game.

MMORPG's were made for people like you. You don't need a fast internet connection or to be in close proximity to each other to enjoy a game like Everquest or the upcoming World of Warcraft. They aren't turn based but they offer so much more then what you're probably used to...

Another vote for Alpha Centauri. Lots of multiplayer options too.

battlemail joust used to be. But no they have taken it down

In that, you assign preplanned attacks and defenses. You gain levels. You challenge by email. You can earn and buy equipent. Also visually simply designed. Sadly they took down the servers ... Another game similar but nnot as accomplished is www.emailassault.com ...its still in beta so lesse what happens
