I've got a large piece of glass from a coffee table we need to fit in a trash can and I don't want to pickup a hundred small pieces.

Thanks

Wrap it in a sheet, use hammer, rock, large book, etc to break up and then bundle the old sheet into the trash can.

Find a dumpster. Lay down a lot of newspaper. Score (?) the glass and crack, but this is probably a lot harder than it sounds. Find a wheel barrel?

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Heavy plastic bags would probably work well too. Lay it flat on the ground, take a hammer to it, pick the bag up.

Yeah this works fine. I've done it to get rid of cathode ray tubes - biggest one was a 20" only but crushing the stem + a little of the tube made it pretty compact.

You can't just drop it off at a recycling place or something?

dude, that was toxic waste...you are supposed to send those to t a recycling center.

as for glass, score it with a glass cutter bought at a hardware store.
then just snap it iinto bits

This is what I was going to suggest. The tape would keep the parts together, once you have pieces, you can fold the whole thing to fit whatever shape you need and at most only a couple of stray piece of glass would fall off.

I don't think they take that kind of glass. I guess its chemical composition is different than that of drink bottles.

Craigslist? Maybe someone out there would have a use for a big sheet of tempered glass.

WTF? I'm sure someone would buy a piece of glass that big. Stick it in the free for all and let someone else deal with it. Might even get some cash out of it.
