What's the best way to get into shape for sprints?

Lacrosse season starts late January and I want to be in good enough condition where I can focus on the game (first real season) and not on being in good cardio shape.

From the other players on the team that I know, endurance is very important but its also important to be able to move incredibly quickly when needed...moreso tha latter if you are on defense which I probably will be...

So I've been lifting for three months, mostly chest but occasionally legs (focusing on quads, hamstrings, calves), and now I gotta focus on cardio...first priority is to really nail down the strength to do a full 200 sprint even when tired, next priority is long CCish endurnace.

What's the best way to do this?

Well, the most obvious answer is to jog a couple of miles each day, and that will help you regulate your breathing. Continue to increase your distance as you can handle it. Sorry I'm not much help, hope you get what info you need.

When I ran track in High School we used to do these exercises where 5 or so people would jog in a line and the person in the back would sprint to the front. We would continuously do this for several miles. Basically you are doing a lot of jogging, but you are also sprinting too. It gets harder the more people you add. Sometimes when our coach was feeling particually mean, she would line up the whole team. I think they are called "fart licks" or something like that. I don't know where that term came from...

Lacrosse? Man, that game is wicked cool.

Jogging, starting slow, and then going faster and faster for farther and farther every time you run.

The problem is what you are saying only increases my enduance and my most important thing is to be able to sprint when necessary...I don't want a CC runner's build, or a soccer player's build...

Arial that sounds cool except its hard enough to get one workout partner in the offeason

We just called it a train. One other alternative is to run with a friend(really invaluable when it comes to motivation), and split run into segments of walk, jog, & sprinting. Personally, I've found this to be the most helpful in building both endurance and the ability to make quick sprints when necessary. Best of luck in your season!

what i used to do is run around a track, each quarter-lap i'd alternate jogging and sprinting.
