Replace it with a faster one , other wise defrag it and you can try something like Norton speed disk or disk keeper to optimise where the files are placed

Move your pagefile to a clean, second hard drive and make it permanent.

Learn what to manually clean off the system drive, and run disk clean-up and defragger regularly.

Reduce or eliminate wasted space taken by Recycle Bin. Rinse and repeat for System Restore.

If your drive supports AHCI, but your BIOS shows you're running IDE, rebuild. Have the floppy ready at the F6.

Turn off Indexing Service (aka FindFast).

What the specific Application/function is the one that you think is suffering from slow HD in your system?

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Here's my friend's RAID 0 (4 x 30GB) SSD system's HD Tach numbers. He doesn't spend much time waiting on hard drives, as you can see. And yeah, I put my "name" on the screenshot, because he doesn't post anywhere, and I didn't want someone trying to claim it as their own.

SSD is a brilliant idea! This 128GB was only $4400+ only a few months ago.

It can be had now for ONLY $3220.

Don't forget $4.99 for shipping!

BTW, they are still not faster than the "mechanical" Hard Drives.

Edit: Added review

Great job picking the highest capacity (and thus highest cost) SSD drive.

Newegg currently has SSD drives starting around $250.

Yes, they do.

It is the 16GB model.

Here is the collection of all the SSD's in the $200 - $300 price range, varying in capacity between 8GB and 32GB.

I am not saying that this is a bad idea.

I am just saying that this is a VERY expensive idea, up to 100x more expensive than the standard Hard Drives.

And there is no REAL speed advantage over the Raptor ATM.

Advantages are seek times basically don't exist anymore. SSD destroys the raptor on seek times.

No risk of mechanical failure.

Using the SSD as the primary drive also will cut the work load on the mechanical drive(s) which in turn increases that drives life span.

At this point in time the primary benefit of SSD drives is speed (in some regards, i.e. seek time) and data integrity. (no risk of mechanical failure)

If you want pure storage space SSD fails. That will change in the next 2-3 years though.

I am not disputing the obvious advantages.

But IMO it would be absolutely insane to think about the SSD for the desktop configuration at this price.

Do you realize how much I love Maserati or Ferrari...?

And these cars are WAY faster than an average vehicle in the US.

Not the SSD.

Not much faster.

A HELL of a lot MORE expensive, up tp 100x.

ONE HUNDRED TIMES.

Laptop - yes.

Desktop - big NO.

Wait another year or two.
