Debating an ips Dell U2410 or a 120hz asus LCD. Is IPS an improvement you'd say wow while gaming or is basically for editing photos? Does 120hz bring anything to the gaming scene?
I was starting to wonder about that, too -- might find some answers here:

Great minds think alike. So what did you decide? I don't notice any lag while gaming on TN so I'm kinda leaning towards IPS.
let me tell you that gaming on 120hz lcd vs 60hz is nothing short of amazing. So much so that I don't use my 3007wfp in lieu of a 23 in TN 1080p. I simply can't get over how much smoother it is at 120 hz. I have the Asus vg236h that came with the 3d vision glasses. My girlfriend(soon to be fiance, she doesn't know about the ring yet ) surpised me with it for Christmas since she respects my enjoyment of technology.
I come from a long line of dell ultra sharps and know Quality panels when I see them. This TN I'm using is quite impressive and would have no problems recommending it to you.
What about games like Crysis or metro 2033 that don't get over 60fps? Can you still see a difference? It really is comparable to your 30" in terms of picture quality? How's 3D? And congrats on the fiancé.let me tell you that gaming on 120hz lcd vs 60hz is nothing short of amazing. So much so that I don't use my 3007wfp in lieu of a 23 in TN 1080p. Thanks. It's a done deal then. I'm picking up the asus. I respect your tech opinions. You seem just as geeky as me and it's a rare thing to meet someone as tech geeky as myself.
You only consider getting a monitor with more than 60hz if you intend to play games while achieving higher than 60 FPS. Higher refresh rate only becomes useful when your hardware actually generates new images fast enough for the monitor to actually take advantage of that fact.
If you're under 80 FPS an 120hz monitor isn't your only option. Go here to see what your options can be.
If you are playing well over 90 FPS in certain ways having a slower refresh rate monitor can hurt image quality. Stuff like this is highly technical but I've come across a great resource that explains monitor considerations in plain English. You can educate yourself here.
The person who said higher refresh smooths out microstutters is confused. Microstutters is an issue that occurs with multigpu setups. It's a problem independent of display tech and will harm you regardless of your refresh rate. If you can perceive it (not everyone does) at 60hz you'll definitely feel it even more at 120 hz because it will catch those moments where the gpus hiccup in making new frames more often.
