WOW... Highest N/A output in the world.. I'm impressed... not!

Output per liter is irrelevant! Power is power, and torque is torque! Who cares how many liters it took? When you look at the gas that it's consuming, it barely does better than the camaro even though the camaro has 3x the displacement and 600lbs more weight. Consider that the V8 will last a lot longer since it's not stretched out so much. The S2000's gas mileage is pretty pathetic, considering that the Camaro's V8 makes a lot more power from about the same amount of gasoline..

Speed only goes so far(1/4 mile track) everything else a car is designed with is what works for everyday driving, and circuit driving.

Case is a vid i've seen of two 80, AE86 turinos(110hp car) passing a r34 skyline on a road track. Numbers only mean something in a straight line. Driver, suspension are where it really matters.

What about the Vid I have somewhere of a S2000 taking a quick left off a mountain road into a few trees and flipping over?

That wasn't the cars fault - it was the dumbass driver behind the wheel.

BTW, I think he died. One less yahoo to get into a head-on with.

240 / 2.0 = 120HP / Litre
310 / 5.7 = 54.38HP / Litre

Unless your some Arab prince that loves American car that sucks gas.. I wouldn't take the Camaro

You can kiss ass to HP/L all day long, but 310 > 240.

End of story.

You're missing the point though. What Viper is saying is that just because one engine makes more hp/l it isn't necessarily better. He isn't saying that the Camaro is better because it has more power, he's saying that the hp/l of the S2000 isn't enough to make the car superior all on its own. Hp/lb is more important than hp/l anyway. I like driving a GT car better than a 1/4 mile monster also. In fact my two current cars are a 1976 914 (project) and a 1987 924S (daily). Still, all else about the car being equal, more power is more power is more power no matter how you go about getting it.

ZV

EDIT: To all those who spouted off about hp/lb: In my first post I was considering engine in isolation. Not as connected to a car. Obviously if one car has 110 hp and weighs 1,000 lbs it will be faster than a 115 hp car weighing 3,000 lbs (assuming equal gearing before you all start ranting again).

Having a good handling car doesn't automatically make you a racecar driver... There are always people out there who have tons of cash but can't drive even if their life depends on it...

I remember which video you are talking about... The guy enter the turn too fast, got scared and hit the brakes... The worst thing he could've done...

No, because HP = torque x RPM /5252 The faster you spin it the more HP you get from a given amount of torque. The engines have a stroke of what? an inch? ( actually, I don't know for sure, but I do know they are seriously oversquare )

Yes, but what I'm saying is that they could have gone with any formula - but they chose the lightest because it's the most efficient (and the fastest). Those guys are constantly struggling to shave off a pound here and there.

Re-read my post... I never said the S2000 is a better car than the Camaro because it makes more horsepower per liter... zCypher asked what's the hype about the S2000, and I answered that question... Those are what the S2000 is known for...

Never once did I said S2000 is a better car than the Camaro... They were designed with different purposes in mind, so it's not really a good comparison... Camaro was more of a straight-line drag car while the S2000 is all track/circuit racing...

Hah, hah, hah...yeah, those Honda engines - they're not reliable at all...

So why do Honda and Acura have better resale values than any American Car or Truck made?

Honda engines are very reliable when they're not driven hard. Give a Honda engine a driver who drives it hard and it'll fail as fast if not faster than any other engine out there.

Don't compare apples to oranges. American trucks have great resale value compared to import "trucks" (ha-ha)

And s2k's aren't even that reliable either... alot of the Honda guys blow their motors or blow up their clutches trying to race them.

A S2000 is just a fun car. Its cool that they have the starter button. Its cool they have an engine that can do over 9000 RPM. Its cool that it does 240hp out of a 4 cylinder engine. Its a convertible and damn thing handles like a dream (yes I've driven one).

Its just a fun car. No need to compare it to something that is completely different like the Camaro.

Funny, I drove the crap out of my old Accord and the engine is still strong at 217,000 miles. Doesn't burn any measurable oil, no coolant leaks, all internals in great shape. Only reason I'm getting rid of it is because of the typical problems with rust and late 1980's Japanese steel. Honda engines last just as long even if they are driven hard, you just need to take care of them maintenance-wise.

Zenmervolt obviously has a decent grasp of my point, while some of you are still intoxicated by lofty HP/L ratings.

In the original post that I replied to, no mention was made of anything other than power - The Camaro wins that battle, hands down.

The S2000 is a nice car, they turn my head. It would be a blast to toss one around the country roads out by where my parents live.

But if you want to talk power, your HP/L claims are a pathetic attempt to justify the near 50% advantage the Camaro has in that department.

They both have their appeal, you would be a fool to talk power with a Z28/SS Camaro.

HP/L is a useless figure.

Remember that HP is a function of torque and RPM's (T x RPM)/5252, and not necessarily an indicator of how strong an engine is. Honda artificially inflates their HP numbers by having high-strung, high-RPM engines that you really have to wring out to extract their potential.

If my diesel engine could rev to 8300RPM it would have 395hp instead of it's current 130!

Exactly, specific Output (HP/L) is a way to show off Engineering prowess, but the two specs that matter are Torque and Power to Weight ratio (HP/lb.)
