I've done just about everything you can name including rebuilding several engines and hopping them up a LOT.

I know there are other motor heads out there as well, but I'm wondering how much the average poster on here has done....

I've changed the oil and changed the tires on my parent's cars.

Also helped my dad change the brake pads on a 92 caravan and a 66 mustang.

Hopefully getting my first car in a month or two. And i'll be doing all my work on it myself

(hopefully its gonna be an 02 xlt explorer)

I put gas in it regularly. Once I put more air in a tire.

Joking, joking. But all the serious work I did long ago. I learned a lot about cars and engines in my younger years, but I also learned I don't enjoy working on cars.

Anything that doesn't require expensive or precision tools (i.e. alignment, tire mounting, balancing) - everything else I'll do.I did a lot of custom turbo work on my minivan prior to it's demise.

I changed the oil once. I've changed the light bulbs. I've changed a flat. I've even washed it once or twice.

When it comes to cars, I'm such a feeb.

My first project, without ever having worked on a car before, was to change the driveshaft on my 82 BMW 320i. Since then I had redone the stereo with all new speakers, a new head unit, a 6 disk changer, and 2 subs in the trunk. I redid the suspension with some lower stiffer springs and good shocks. Then I pulled the engine out. And it's been sitting ever since, because the head was a total loss and I didn't trust the block. I got a new engine from a 91 318i to put in it, but I haven't gotten to it, because I don't have a hoist, and I don't have any way at my house to fab the custom mounts it'll need because of the different shape of the engine. Oil pan is deeper, so the engine has to sit a bit higher in the bay.

I haven't done a whole lot of maint work on my truck, because I haven't had the time I did in high school, and I can't go for more than a day without my truck because of my commute. I wish I could conjure up the money to get parts n tools to finish my car, but other things keep popping up that have higher priorities.

If you must know, I've replaced my alternator, brake rotors, pads, antenna, headlight, blinker, & taillight assemblies, and exhaust manifold. Also removed and painted my side mirrors and windshield wiper arms. Wired up some under dash lights as well.

Back in my youth...I rebuilt many engines and transmissions, and completely rebuilt a couple of cars from the ground up. I was a total Mopar junkie. I've also rebuilt heavy equipment diesel engines (Cat, Cummins, and GM) and transmissions,( Cat, Allison, & Fuller) as well as hydraulic components over the years.
Nowdays, I take my vehicles in for oil changes and everything. Can't take bending over the engine compartment for more than a few minutes, and getting under a car is almost impossible.

This reminds me, I need to change a headlight in my mother's car. Looks Never changed a headlight before but I doubt it can be that hard.

Civic Hybrid 2004

Looks like the lamp cost $20 but will I have to do both because they may not match?

NICE!

Thanks....it was quite a job but fun I did 99.9% of the work myself and Dad was along for support and helping me guide the engine in.

Word of advice to all shadetree mechanics (especially for older cars): Assembly manuals are your (only) friend

Almost everything. Swapped cams (dropped a lifter... god what a mistake), took 'em all the way apart (never actually did the rebuild). Cars are a good hobby for me, cheaper than computers.

Before that - probably replacing a water pump on a camaro in a college parking lot.

 Love the 80 Series.

Yea, I love the truck - just wish it wasn't so thirsty
I want to start wheeling a bit with it now that the big maintenance items are done. And maybe building it up a bit for offroad.

Ive helped a guy convert my car from auto to manual, i did the driveshaft, console work (non complicated stuff) as I was paying him to do most of it.
I have rechipped the computer, refitted battery terminals
Pulled apart and diagnosed problem with my alternator refitted and ok
radiator coolant, spark plugs, oil, air filters etc. Replaced coils to with MSD perf ones.
Fitted new starter motor after trans conversion, needed some washes to get it in the right spot.

Nothing real major but i am an enthusiast with fvrk all spare time (kids/work/mrs)
Need to do the sump on my car would love to do it myself but need a crane.
