What's the difference between a "business notebook" and a normal one?

What's are the differences between a company's normal line of laptops for "home users" and the line of laptops "for business?"

Does it involve the laptop build, or services only that laptop can access, or software that comes with it, or something else?

Just wondering.

Generally an business build means less flashy stuff and a lot more durable.
They tend to be built using better parts.
They usually come with more security software such as encryption or various things like that.

thanks for the info. Doesn't seem like something that would be worth too much extra $ in most situations (not saying that business laptops are always more expensive)

theyre....more durable. i guess it depends on how often youre going to carry your laptop around.

They also do not have the multi-media stuff like consumer notebooks. So for the most part no music or video controls, and most will lack a dedicated video card sticking with integrated for better battery life. Hard drive shock protection is also a little better. If you can get a hold of a Thinkpad and the difference will be appearant. I bought a used X61 and can't believe how much more solid it is than my wifes brand new XPS 1530.

Basically as has been stated. Business laps are designed for work and travel - a road warriors's tools. Home user's are generally for use at home - not so much travel involved.

Also, business class notebooks usually have the ability to be docked to a docking station.

The other thing to remember is not just class of warranty service, but WHERE the warranty is supported. If you buy a "consumer" laptop direct from the company or in a retail store, it's 99% guaranteed that the warranty coverage will only be in the country from which you purchased it. This is even the case with some "business class" laptops that are sold in retail stores.

If international warranty coverage is a concern for you, you must investigate before purchasing as this is an area no companies really do a good job of explaining/advertising.

Business = durability, battery life, "business" type OS not "home", quiet operation, no "fun" software preinstalled. And no shiny screens plesae, I want to work not shave, kthx.

You usually get better hardware on the inside in a consumer laptop, but it comes at the expense of durability, battery life, awesomeness, etc.
