What's the Fastest SATA HDD?

Good afternoon,
Am doing research for my new system that I'll be putting together over the next few months.

What is the fastest SATA HDD out there (excluding the Raptor)?

Will probably buy a pair of HDD and put them in a RAID1.

Of course, a relatively silent drive is good too.

One of those Hitachis with the 16MB cache and the new technology to predict file usage.
But its really only faster in certain office benchmarks.
Wont do much for booting or loading games.

Somehow I doubt (s)he is interested in spending $10,000 on a commercial grade SSD.

edit: the cheapest commercial grade SSDs are still about $10k, right?

I have two SSDs in my system, and I only spent $3k

How much have you got to spend? A good solid setup is:

Also I would go for Raid 5 and not Raid 1 if you can afford the extra cash.

SSD are not worth wasting time looking at. A dedicated RAID card and some fast SCSI drives will blow them away. Great 'Nerd' value I guess though.

Rocket Drives use regular old PC-100/133.
