Whats the fastest slot 1 CPU?

Thanks... want to see what speed I can get... but at the low prices maybe I am better off upgrading to mobo with DDR...

1GHz/133MHz FSB Pentium 3 is the fastest Slot1 processor available. The P3 really doesnt gain anything at all from going to DDR SDRAM. it just doesnt need the extra memory bandwidth.

A 700E Slot 1 cC0 that does 1050MHz... if the ram, agp, etc, can handle it.

The 700E at 1050 isnt exactly a guarantee though, and I presume he is referring to non-overclocked processor. If you want to include overclocked processors then I'm sure you could come up with a few ideas better then that.

But Compuwiz is right! If you want the FASTEST CPU/PERFORMANCE, you cannot beat a 1050Mhz/150FSB! Even if Intel kept their buggy 1.13Ghz/133FSB model, the performance would be below that of a P3 700@1050 (due to the FSB)!!! So in summary, the fastest you will achieve on a slot1 mobo is indeed a P3 700 overclocked to 1050, assuming your components can handle 150Mhz FSB (37.5Mhz PCI bus isn't too bad most of the time).

There's a pIII 1ghz 100fsb slot1 cpu available too. But resellers want a huge premium for it, lowest on pricewatch is $225 retail.

Yeah the P3-1000 chip, but it isn't very overclockable.

Actually most of the slot 1 boards are based on the BX chipset and that has 100 MHz as it's best &quot;approved&quot; FSB setting which means the divider for PCI Bus is 3. That means if you run your FSB at 150 (50% beyond spec) then your PCI devices have to be able to run 50 MHz (50% beyond spec) and most of them just can't do that.

Most BX boards also have 1/4 divider for the FSB which put's the PCI speed @ 37.5

The 700e is the fastest........with the right components. Most hardware today can take the &quot;out of spec&quot; settings that the BX will inflict @133+. Up in this range though ...the BX is awesome.
