Oh, and this was in a 10+ year old full-size Ford conversion van in Canada, and we were still being passed.

140 MPH in Death Valley. My little Mazda Protege impressed me.
A friend once terrified me at 155. I think it was in an older BMW. The speed wasnt as scary as the twisty, icy road between Keflavik and Reykavik.
Kudos to anyone who has driven fast on an unimproved scandanavian road in January.

145 in my old modded Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo.

Sucker clocked 180+ but never took it that far.

115. got a ride from a friend on the way back from practice and we went over this bridge and we were in the air for what felt like 3 whole seconds.

Fastest Car I was ever in:

170+ mph (speedo was pegged, probably close to 200) in a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra (428 ci V-8, automatic, Z-rated tires, which was a limited production vehicle sold to qualify what was essentially a factory built NASCAR racecar as "stock")

I rode in one of those once. It was a nice car. By nice I mean unreal.

My record is 169mph in an NHRA drag racer; did one of those drag racing experience thingies a few years back. Track was Milan Dragway in Michigan. That was probably the scariest thing I've ever done in my life.

On an actual highway sustained, I drove the 55 miles from the end of The Lodge in Detroit to Lansing on I-96 in 31 minutes after the Detroit Electronic Music Fest (at 3am on a Monday morning - I think I passed 3 cars total) in my humble Suzuki Aerio SX.

True story:

A friend and I were driving to a larger town a couple hours away from home in his Mustang GT....cruising along at 5 over, when this bright red porsche 911 turbo goes speeding by us in the lefthand lane. Ok cool, we just keep driving along as we had been, getting around traffic and all that, when who do we see slowing down to wait for us up ahead...the porsche.

So my friend, being the manly man he is, speeds up to pull even with the porsche...and as we do the other guy floors it (note I say to my friend right here he's just going to play with us) so my friend floors the GT to try and keep up. Traffic is fairly light so both cars start getting going fast...100+ mph pretty quickly when we come up to a small car (in left lane) and a semi (in right lane) blocking our race from continuing....or so we thought. The porsche driver (still going around 100mph) drives over onto the shoulder of the road and passes the semi from the right!

We chickened out and waited for the small car to pass the semi before passing ourselves and seeing the porsche waiting for us again. Traffic is really light now and we get up to 125+ mph, the whole time the porsche just plays with us...edging ahead and slowing down again Finally we got to town and figured going 125 in a 65 was prolly a bad idea....so we slowed down and let the porsche have his victory! bwaha!
This is funny. I have a similar story, without the racing, I guess. When I was much younger (and much less wise ), I was cruising along on I95 in the left lane at just under 90mph in my friend's Integra (he was the passenger). Out of nowhere, a red Porshche 911 comes up on us and starts tailgating us. This of course annoyed me (as I said, I was young and foolish) so I asked my friend if he minded if I gave the car a little more gas. He didn't object so I stepped on the gas and got the thing up to 105. The Porsche continued to tailgate us. Seeing this, I took the car up to 115. Upon looking in the rearview mirror, the Porsche was still there, tailgating. I started to step on the gas to take it up to 120, when I finally thought better of it and pulled into the next lane and let him pass. The Porsche driver pulled up even with us for a second, gave me a slight knowing smile, and proceeded to disappear down the road. He must have been doing 140-150 easy. That was the fastest I have ever gone in a car though, maybe 117-ish. Then again, I've never driven a Porsche...

while it was no mclaren...

I was that guy a couple times. hehehehe.

150 - porsche

185 KM/h ~ 115 MPH Alfa Romeo 156 German Autobahn (great driving advisory speed is 130 KM/H ~ 82 MPH)

Fastestin currect Car Toyota Carina ('93) 145 Km/H ~ 90 MPH in dutch highways (advisory speed is 100 (62mph) or some places 120 (75 mph) KM/h. But beware of speed traps and camara's a 3 KM speeding wil be a 60 Euro ($78 at 1.3 currency rate) fine !!
And you don't wat to drive fast because of fuel consumption! 1 LITER of Petrol is 1,18 Euro ($1,50!) ! that is (1.18*3.74 = 4,40 Euro per gallon! ($ 5.70)

Every time I have to go the our main office in Bremen (germany) from Holland we drive in Germany at an average of 150 KM/h wih a rental car.

Fastest virtiual drive in PS2 GT3 A-Spec game is 415 Km/h ~ 415 MPH in a Mazda Speed 787B
