You will like it until the last 100 pages, where it repeats the same shit over and over and over.

I skipped through most of it.

Most if not all of Michener's were over 1000 pages. Some have taken me six months to read - great instead of a sleeping pill. iirc, perks up during the last 200 pages.

I've been wanting to pick up some Mailer for a couple of years now, but haven't gotten around to it. So is this the title you'd recommend for an introduction? I tend to latch on to authors once I get started (amis, cormac mccarthy, hemingway, rushdie).

I'll trust any man to recommend books who's screen name is Keith Talent.

Executioner's Song is one of my favourite books ever, but The Naked and the Dead is a classic as well and about half the length (if that's of any concern). Those are the only two of his I have read, but I would easily recommend either one. Naked and the Dead might be a better starting point, but it depends on which subject matter you prefer.

The Song of Ice and Fire by Martin along with Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Erikson are both hefty series with at least ~700 pages per book.

Robert Jordans "Wheel of time" books... I've been reading them since 89 or 90, 11 books + one prequel... The series is not finished and the guy just died a few months ago....

I've read the entire Bible a few times, that's pretty long, especially considering its small print size.

I dragged through the works of Aristotle & Plato, both pretty lengthy, surely more than 1000 pages each.

Atlas Shrugged was a long one.

Until fairly recently I never made time for novels, because all my reading was technical stuff, lots of which was very long, tedious and very difficult. Last few years I've started enjoying some novels, mostly not that long or difficult, but fun.
