What's the max safe vcore for my A64 3000? It sucks so bad it probably need a very high vcore to be stable at 2.4, something beyond 1.7v. So i was wondering if it's safe to operate at over 1.7 vcore? I'll probably just sell this chip...i wouldn't do that normally, but it's just SO bad =p

I wouldn't go more then 10% ever or 1.65v.....I only plan on 1.6v(actual) or less....

I would just sell it and try try again. If I get a dud and can't even get 2.4ghz to be solid I will be trying again. they can't all be winners but I bet that better odds are that AMD gets good yields and most of these chips should be able to pull at least 3800+ speeds if not more with some added juice..... Good luck

Also remember mobos and ram have a lot to do with things so sometimes finicky stability issues could be related elsewhere. Make sure you really play with the fsb, ram timings, HTT, etc to isolate things and determin if this board is going to be a stinker no matter the chip....

Also what is that ram rated speed?? Also list power supply...

Well, normally i woudn't consider selling it, because that's a big dropoff in cash, when i think about what I paid for it, what i could sell it for now, plus the price of another one. Probably wouldn't be worth it, but man, this OC is depressing - My last system was also a bad overclocker, so it's really a bummer. I probably will end up keeping this one as well.

My Ram is at 2.5.3.3.6 1t, if that's what you mean. I'm using an Enermax noisetaker 420. Was using an Antec 350w smartpower, but it died. My rails are all fine.

I've tried pretty much everything to OC though. I'm going to need a miracle to get this thing to run at any higher speeds. I've decided i'm not going to use an unsafe Vcore to OC. It wouldn't boot up at 2400 when i was at 1.72v anyways.

So now list the HTT, FSB, multiplier, ram divider, etc. Why not try turningthe cas timing to 3? Have you ran memtest to see if the ram is holding you back???

HTT is auto, FSB is now 230x10 (won't boot if i use x9 or x8). Not sure about the ram divider, everything is named something else in this bios to make it extra confusing - Will turning the cas timing to 3 give me a knock down in performance?

I've tried running at httx3, with some different mem/fsb ratios, but they made no difference at all.

I'll try and run memtest if i can, don't think it works in this bios though.

From what I have read from most ppl didnt' see much of a difference at all running cas 3 on these amd boards with dual channel controllers.

That is odd your system will let you boot at 10x230 and not 9x230??? I mean that is a slower speed and shouldn't change anything else. I think the board is the issue. have you tried flashing it to a newer bios???

YOu know lower the ram timings and look for the ram divider...It is likely the system at auto will force 1:1 and that 460ddr would be a tough sell for most pc3200 corsair if that is what you have. Lower timings even a boost of vdimm could help.

It might boot at 9x230, but it probably wouldn't boot at 9x259, which would be pretty much be the same thing. I'm using the newest bios.

edit: meant 10x230 and 9x259

I think you meant 10x230 and 9x259...If you drop the HTT to 3x for the time being. Set the ram to 100 or 133 and cas setting to 3 and tell me if it boots. Run all the core voltages a notch up in case board undervolts a bit...

When you say the cas setting, do you mean the "Write CAS# Latency"? I can't change that. I can only do auto or 1

I am not sure of you bios settings but their usually should be about 4 to 5 different settings. Write is one but I think there is also precharge and so on....

Tell me what the whole bios page looks like and the choices...

Here is the bios page for the Lanparty here. Jack tackle you want Cas latency control to change the Cas latency

I have the same chip and board as Jack Tackle and have hit the same wall for the OC. I think the newer A64 3000+'s dont oc very well.

I think the newer A64 3000+'s dont oc very well.

I think with the 3000's lower multiplier, you really need good ram to get a good overclock. Some people opt for the 3200 just for the higher multiplier.

If your running a C0 rev chip like i am then your pretty much screwed. #1 the C0 rev chip will not enable 2t timings. #2 I have the C0 3200 and it is stable max at 2300. And that is with 1.72 vcore. I have the xp 90 and it idles at 37c so im not too worried about the xtra volts. If your really interested in ocing the mobo check out the dfi fourms at http://www.dfi-street.com/foru...fdc037cfc5a1a3cd27e254. There is alot of good info related to the board your running there and overclocking in general. Here is a link that details my experience with the C0 rev chip....
http://www.dfi-street.com/foru...p?s=&threadid=3289. Also dont give up on your memory just yet. The board your running has to be tweaked pretty hard to get it to run good. I hope some of this is a help to you....
