What's the meaning behind your username?

it kinda means "little chicken" in portuguese... its just the counterstrike name i used to use when i was 17 and joined the forums... because of that stupid chicken graffiti in counterstrike...

5 years later and im kinda glad hardly anyone on the board knows what it means!

I typically go by Bob to everyone that knows me, and for the most part when playing an FPS I go by Menkey.

So GeForceTony basically came up with my user name, because he'd refer to me as that during LAN parties. And he's also the one that made me join forums because of a fiasco where we were both accused of scamming video card manufactuerers because we were both struck with an amazingly bad series of luck with our 6800GTs. And now mine died again We both ended up going through like 3 or 4 of the damn things to get ones that would actually post and display the windows desktop without producing artifacts.

Originally it was TheOverlord from my summoning Necro on diablo 2... huge army (pre 1.10). Then for games like Halo TheOverlord didn't fit so I eventually shortened it to Overlord, but that was too boring so i threw in a bunch of caps and an I at the end resulting in OVerLoRDI.

Cool. It's neat to see what made people choose the names they did sometimes. I always thought how it was weird how the internet gave birth to a completely different language without rules or limits--but one that could be explained by an already existing language. I don't think that happened before or if it did it was never documented. Also, it helps to understand why people have such weird names sometimes.

I was a huge fan of DBZ back in the day (~'97). Kept the nickname. I also use the nickname Diminitive, it came from 'Why use a long word when you can use a diminutive one?'. I just liked the word better with all i's.

Short for Zoltan, I have used it in a lot of rpgs and online games, I have always liked the ring of it. Zoltan is also the name of the machine in the tom hanks movie "Big" but I didn't know that at the time.

Since most probably don't know what significance my own username has I'll go ahead and begin by explaining mine just to get things going.

In my favorite piece of literature, 1984, the main distopian anti-hero archetype was Winston Smith. Once during the book, the television that the whole society was forced to keep in their living quaters projected a voice through it yelling at this main character. It mentioned his last name, Smith, and his identification number, 6079.

So, since my last name is not something I just wish to throw out constantly on the internet, I chose to use my first name coupled with my favorite character's identification number, 6079, hence "josh6079".

Does anyone else have a method by which they chose their username or did most just make something up and snatched whatever came to the top of their head?

The number after my obvious name also has significance.

From the early 1970's CB craze 674 was my local group number and my Dad 636.

Those that remember the movie Frequency from a few years ago will understand.

Yes..."friend". How did you break it to your parents?
