Dos Equis (XX) or whatever it was. I thought this was a higher level beer above a Corona, yet it tastes just like one.

LOL, I've been in that situation before. I found it's best to take big huge swallows and get them down as fast as possible. Don't sip on it unless you can go somewhere with the glass/bottle and pour some out. If possible nibble on food in between swallows to get rid of the taste.

WTF is the point of non alcoholic beer, half the reason you drink beer is to get plastered...what they actually think people drink beer for the taste...thats crazy talk

Plastered on Beer?
That would take a LOT of beer.
If it's good beer, then you are talking an easy $100 or so at a bar.

It's much easier, and cheaper, to get plastered on Whiskey, Rum, Gin, Vodka, etc ....

I drink beer for the taste, but I only drink GOOD beer for the taste.

if you drink real beer (so at least 4.5%) then half a carton (12 375ml stubbies(about 1.4 standard drinks)) is a pretty big night, half a block (15 375ml tinnies, 1.4 standard drinks) a little more so...

No, 12 bottles of beer is far from "plastered".
12 bottles is perhaps a little bit of buzzing if on an empty stomache.

If I want to get plastered, I need at least 25+ beers.

And I do drink "real" beer, I'm mostly into Ales and Lagers, but I like to experiment.

I can drink a full 750ml bottle of 80 proof rum (Captain Morgan's Private Stock) and get a good buzz going ... and the rum costs $20. To match the amount of alcohol in beer, assuming beer is 5% .. I would need to drink 16 x the volume of beer as rum. (12 liters)

I am not about to drink 12 liters of beer, as that would probably make me sick.

I weigh 280 pounds, which may be why I need to drink a bit more then other people.

So a "real" beer is measured by alcohol%? In that case then you aren't drinking a "REAL" beer until you start getting into the Belgium Abbey Ales that are 10%+. Go drink two 25oz Abbey Ales that are about 12.5% back to back and let me know how they treat you.

A couple of them and it's like a sledgehammer knocked you upside the head.

well i'd say that half a block (21 standard drinks, same as a 750ml bottle of bacardi/canadian club/gin/standard bottle of vodka) would be plenty to most people plastered

Oops .. I made a math error ... I was comparing .... % to proof ....
Make that 6 liters of beer ... that's only 6 liters of beer ... or about 17 12oz bottles. (at 5%) .....

so to get a good buzz going (while still being coherant, and not completely "plastered") ... 17 beers ....

I guess "plastered" is a bit of a dynamic word.

To me, that means extremely drunk. Examples of things that happen when plastered, "Pass out", "become violent", "become violently ill", "damage things", "fall down a lot". None of those things happen after only 1 bottle of rum .... so I don't consider it "plastered".

However, if you use "plastered" to simply mean intoxicated to the point of stupidity. Yea, I get really stupid after that much drink.

All beer is either an ale or lager. Bud Miller Coors are lagers. If it's not an ale or lager, it isn't beer.

Real beer is not determine by ABV. If you're drinking to get drunk, stick to the 4% cheap beers like bud/miller/coors. It's cheaper that way. Or better yet, buy the hard stuff.

On topic? I'd have to say a Belgian beer...Stella Nacht or something like that. $4 for a ~12 oz. bottle and it was not good.

Ahh ... I thought "pilsner" was seperate from Ales and Lagers.
And yea, I do not ever drink beer to get drunk. That was pretty much my point. It's expensive as hell to get drunk on beer. I can get drunk on a bottle of rum, and drink beer to maintain it.

A pilsner is a style of lager. Ale and Lager refer to the type of yeast used. Ale is a top fermenting yeast and lager is a bottom fermenting yeast. Wheat beers, lambics, porters, and stouts are ales. Pilsners and bocks are lagers. Cold fermented beers are lagers. Most German beers are lagers except the hefewiezens (wheat). Most Mexican beers are really German beers. Most English/Irish/Scottish beers are ales.

Yeah, that stuff is pretty horrible. I decided to try it from a local Chinese restaurant, and it was not a good experience.

I tried a German Ale called "Wench Water" that was not too good. It was on tap at this quaint tavern that serves all kinds of micros.

how is it more expensive to get drunk from beer rather than liquor? slower? sure. quicker? no

1.5oz shot of 80 proof has .6oz of alcohol
12oz beer at 4.5$ has .54oz of alcohol

so 1 beer is roughly equivalent to 1 shot

premium beer would cost 5$ at a bar (that's what you were discussing), as would a shot of good liquor
cheaper beers is anywhere from 1-3$, as would a cheap shot or a well drink...

how would 1 method be cheaper than another?

if you require an entire bottle (750ml) of liquor just to get buzzed (which i really doubt), it'll be expensive anywhere--bar or home--drinking anything--beer or liquor
