So I wanted some ice cream, but because I have no silverware I had to use a spaghetti spoon thing to scoop it...

What random junk like this have you had to do to get shiz done?

EDIT: Spaghetti spoon and spatula are the closest things I have to silverware. The rest is crappy plastic spoons/forks/knives I buy from the walgreens I live above.

You had a spaghetti spoon? BAN!!!

I've made noodles with a four inch wide funnel because I didn't want the liquid, made Kool-Aid in empty beer bottles because we didn't have anything clean... not too much. Lots of Ramen, obviously. Nothing special.

"Donated" plasma twice a week for around $40 for food and beer money.

Been there, done that.

My most ghetto thing was probably my car...rusted out, front bumper that was practically bent in two by the previous owner, no power steering, huge crack in the windshield, the key would only open the passenger's side door (driver's was jammed, trunk had gotten broken into), sunroof that would leak all over the place when it rained, so I put a big garbage bag over my seat when I parked, and poured the pool of water out every time I had to go somewhere. Of course, the first right turn I'd make would send a stream of water that had collected in the sunroof onto my head. Also, the engine would run really rough in wet weather, so I had a TERRIBLE time getting to and from work. It would sputter and stall in the middle of the freeway, so I would quickly pump the gas a bit, restart it, keep going...Then it would sputter and stall at a stoplight, so I would press the clutch, try to rev it up a bit, let out the clutch a little to keep from sliding backwards, press it in and rev it up a bit more...

Glad I got rid of that car. Still, got me to 240k after a lifetime of abuse, so...

Oh come on guys! I know you have some terribly ridiculous things you've done...

***UPDATE*** Now I'm drinking soda out of a ziploc tupperware container (no paper glasses left)

Some student had ketchup soup because he was out of money for a while. As for me, I'm no longer a student but I reuse tea bags and will even dilute my milk occasionally.

We built a table out of beer bottle caps. My friend wanted a table so we saved up bottle caps from our beers in a 5 gallon jug. Came out looking pretty sweet in the end, we even spelled out our university logo with the right colors.

I use a small dresser as my computer stand

My lunch today consisted of free cookies and water being given out after a colloquium

I successfully purchased an India edition book for $30, bought the Western edition (used) for $100 (since the chapter problems are different) at the university book store, and returned the India edition to the university book store by swapping bar codes. Used books have a sticker bar code that is pretty easy to peel off, so I put it over the India edition bar code and returned it with no problems for a $100 refund, so in the end I got the book I needed for $30.

I know 4 different locations on campus where I can print or copy anything I want for free and on color printers

I have a friend who doesn't pay for an internet connection, he just brings his laptop to various computer labs and hangs out there if he needs to use the internet (including bit torrent, for some reason they don't block hardly any ports in the computer labs if you just jack in).

Well, I dont' have a camera :-(. My TV stand is on my desk and another one, propped up w/ old novels. The TV is a 32" CRT. It is heavy and very unstable. My speaker stands are all Knex. Soon to loft my bed w/ phonebooks. (only need ~1 ft)
