When I started at Rutgers in 1994, my one year old Accord EX had a blown speaker on the right front, so I had to buy a NEW set of these awesome infiniti kappa's and i had to install them in the cold!! ROUGH TIMES!!

Vehicle wise, I am buying an old F150. And it costs less than 500 bucks.

When dorming freshmen year.. a bunch of would take plates/utensils from the cafeteria. Also throw fruit/food out the window to friends so we could have em later on.

Sneaking food out of cafeteria is a classic...how about stealing toilet paper and the bags of hand soap for use at the apartment when funds got so low you couldn't afford TP or soap (including dishwahing soap, bath soap or shampoo)?

It isn't the money management, it is saving that money for what is important!

I take cups and utensils from the dining hall but I'm sure everyone does that.

I also played beer pong without beer or a ping pong table. Not very fun.

Funny, I managed to eat well, have a decent computer, and enough spare change to go out and get tuned like a little import car every so often.

Does the poor college student dinner still get made? A box of off brand Mac & Cheese, a can of tuna and a can of Cream of Mushroom soup. It cost just under a buck when I made it in college.

Most of the college students that I know have absolutely no money management skills. It's sad, really.

We were drinking tequila and had no salt or lemons. So we licked pretzels and ate lemonhead candies.

EDIT: When I lived in the dorm I didn't have a can opener, and no one on my floor did. So I used some toenail trimmers to open my can of soup. I think I still have a picture of it, too.

A friend of mine didn't own any silverware, so he would eat yogurt/ applesauce/ anything else he could with straws. He'd buy packs of 500 straws for a buck from the dollar store.

I wasn't on a meal plan, but as an RA, I was able to have picnics for my dorm, with the food supplied from the dining hall for everyone...
I had LOTS of leftovers; set my dorm fridge to freeze the stuff and ate hamburgs, hotdogs, chips, and brownies for over a month.

Then, when I ran out of food, I went home for a weekend, worked at the pizza shop, and took all the leftovers to school. (sort of like McD's, we kept cheese and pepperoni pizza fresh all the time, similar to their fries. If it got old, it got thrown out and fresh was made. But, if there was any to be thrown out, it went into a big box, destined for my fridge/freezer. Bad orders went too. Plus, leftover pizza at the end of the night... I ate pizza for lunch and dinner for 3 or 4 straight weeks as well.)
