First year of college...used those sealed air cushions they use for packing stuff as pillows.

Mostly it just invovles stealing little things from the cafeteria and other places. Also, I go to a bunch of club meetings for stuff I didn't care about becasue they were offering free pizza . Pretty much every "costume" I wear for theme parties is completely ghetto in fabrication.

milkcrates + a plank of wood = coffee table.
milkcrates stacked = shelving
milkcrates = night stand
milkcrates = something to sit on.

I wore a $3.00 suit from a thrift store to a job interview
Every halloween costume I had in college was also scevenged from the thrift store, usually for less than $5 total.
Never bought condiments, napkins, or plastic silverware...all of that was gratis from fast food places.
We had a party with jello shots...but instead of buying the little cups for them, we grabbed big handfuls of the little things you put the ketchup in at Wendy's.
I grabbed one of the "PARKING METER OUT OF SERVICE" yellow bags they put on broken meters, and used it whenever I parked instead of paying...this worked surprisingly well, actually.

The list continues, but I can't think of many more off the top of my head.

I had a job that paid $13.50 an hour and I did a lot of freelance work so I was never really short on money for food. I ended up cooking a lot for my roommates. Most of our furniture was scavenged from stuff that people were throwing out or giving away though.

Okay, so there are these flavored water dispensers in the cafeteria and we were thinking, last year, of taking some upstairs and putting it in our freezer so we would have popsicles and thus save money on dessert.

My friends took an entire set of plates, bowls, silverware and various other utensils from the dining halls before leaving the dorms. Enough for a 5 bedroom house, lol.

Our fridge got moldy in the winter once, and we were to lazy to clean it, so we kept our window cracked open and kept our milk, pop, and a few other things by the window sill for a few weeks, until we manned up and cleaned.

Also, when I lived with mommy and daddy, I'd use their money to get my haircut more frequently. In college, I didn't get my hair cut as much, and I needed a way to atleast stay trimmed, SOOO...

I mangled up this contraption: barbershop

I placed the webcam behind my head, and then put the window containing the what the cam showed on the tv. That way, when I trimmed my hair with an electric razor, I knew where I was trimming!

BRILLIANT. Although I bet that's a sizable misdemeanor.

you and me both, lol.

i understand some situations. such as paying for college completely out of pocket, with no scholarships of any kind.

even then, though... i have no idea.

Nothing much really.

This credit card company has a promo booth set up in one of the buildings occasionally and would have gifts if you sign up. I signed up once, got a free pen and a credit card, then I kept singing up and getting the gifts I have around 5 or 6 University of Toronto tshirts, all free (they cost around $20 at the school store )

This is funny, due to a buddy posting the same exact thing.
I ate top raman for a whole summer. It was bad. Nothing but that. I trimmed my nails once, and got two haircuts (I usually get a haircut every 3 weeks). My nails and hair simply didn't grow. I got the flu badly in the middle of July. And I had two colds.
The next summer, I feasted like a king (only in relative speaking). To complement my Top Ramen, I ate Carl's Jr. everyday for lunch. I had a half hour to make it from school to work. It was a 27 minute drive, and a Carl's Jr. was the only place I could pull in to the right, and exit turning right.
To this day, I can't stand the taste of Carl's Jr. I can't even it smell it, make me feel sick.

we had a futon that was broken, halfway unfolded in the shape of a V. it was like the super recliner experience. really flat cushions though so the bars beneath dug into you when you sat down.

and my roomate had to sleep there every single night of 2nd semester, cuz we didnt have an extra bed (our room was really only designed for 2 people, but had 3 in it) hahahaha
(he was the one who broke the futon though, so thats why we made him sleep there.

We had no microwave, but we had a sink, two plastic cups, and two frozen burritos. We filled one cup with hot water, put a wrapped burrito in it, and covered with the other cup. Every 10 minutes or so, we'd replace the hot water.

I don't remember how long it took, but it was a long ass time and the burrito was terrible. We bought a microwave the next day.

Dinner was almost always ramen (bought for 10 or 12 for a buck), cooked with some frozen veggies (bought on sale for very cheap), half the seasoning packet (so I wouldn't die from the sodium) and one or two eggs (begged off of my parents from their hens or bought cheap) scrambled into the soupy mess when it was almost finished. Took less than five minutes to cook, and had protein, carbs, fat, and veggies. God I got sick of that. And I was perpetually anemic, so I'd save up enough money to buy a hamburger at the college cafeteria once a week, or if I was too broke for that, beg some meat from my parents' freezer. Going out for dinner (not often) consisted of going to a local buffet and ordering only soup, which they'd let you get seconds of, I think it was maybe about two bucks including drinks. I suspect they were only supposed to let you get it as an add-on to a real order, not by itself, but they never said a word about it. During the school year, I worked part time and brought home about 400/month, from which I had to buy gas (commuted), phone, electricity (kept the heat set at about 55F), textbooks, food, car payment (about $125/month) and all the other stuff you need to live (shampoo, soap, etc.) I had to drop out of school for one term, when I had less than one full term's worth of classes left to graduate, in order to earn enough money to pay for the last term's tuition. That sucked.

I ran out of money for a few weeks at the end of one semester, and I didn't want to burden my folks so...

I bought a pack of hot dogs and some cheap tortillas, and ate those thing for 2 weeks. By the end I was puking my guts out everytime I even smelled a hot dog (Actually I did that for a year afterwards).

While in college I used to carry around a book bag, and a waterproof duffel bag.

I'd collect bottles and cans in the duffel bag so I could put gas in my car, and have a little spending cash.

Gotta like the Michigan $0.10 bottle refund and spoiled college kids that toss them in the trash.
