Whats the most ghetto thing you've had to do/make/use bc you're a poor student?

i used to dumpster dive from the pizza places and donut shops... also, if you save buy a drink at taco bell and save the cup, you can bring it back to refill. also i did laundry in the bathtub with shampoo/bar soap more than once...

My parents would joke that they would set up a til at the door as I went out from home on the wkends. But that was all the 'help' they would give me, I had to pay everything else. So I ate pretty good actually.

I didn't buy any new clothes in two yrs so by the end I was getting threadbare.

My car got broke into and winter here is severe so I got a piece of clear plexiglass for like $10 , cut it to fit and jammed it in the window, the window crank would hold it in place.

I made a fly sparge system with plastic tubing, drum sticks, and duct tape.

They used to give out these campus sample packs at the beginning of each semester that had sample size containers of lot of bathroom essentials (deodorent, cold medicine, shampoo, etc.). So me and my roommate would hit up all the tables where they gave them out and stock up enough for the rest of the semester.

Also, we had patio furniture on the inside of our apartment, and the fireplace doubled as the TV stand during the warmer months.

My roomies and I salvaged a really old 27" CRT monitor from the dump outside one of the labs. That thing was ancient and was a monster in size. It probably cost a lot of money back in the day. Sadly, we couldn't get it to work with any of our video cards, so we put it in the living room and made it into a chair.

I signed up for at least 20 different credit cards with fake names, fake addresses and fake identities, just to get their t-shirts, bags, and other freebies. Course, the cards were never issued once they checked up on the identities, but the guys peddling cards on the street never care about that.

Oh, and there was the time we went to the local discount grocery store and bought crates of 99cent microwavable dinners and lived off that for almost a whole semester.

i personally havent done anything too ghetto...other than ****** bandaging when i cut myself on the deck...but some of my brothers friends are crazy...
one of them slept on peoples couches for a month at a time for an entire year...
the other would get his roomate to shoot squirles (thye hung a feeder outside their dorm room) and he would cook and eat them on one of those crappy 1 person electric stoves...

I've been using an empty plastic jar that my roommate got trail mix in as my trash can. That bastard fills up way too quickly. I think I"m going to go find a box and line it with big black trashbags.

My Favorite ghetto thing that I see pretty often is when there is a three bedroom house and there are 5-6 guys living in the house.

"Well Ted pays $50 a month to rent the couch and Brian and Bill share the the dining room as a bedroom and they pay like $120 each."

Its so funny to see that many people all packed into a tiny house to save money, but I can't say that I'm not guilty of tryin to penny pinch.

The utilities were turned off, because we were moving, but we were to stupid to arrange that correctly and were without gas for a few days.

Used uncooked Ramen to dip peanut butter from the jar.

regularly "appropiated" cheapo items of an electronic nature like headphones that weren't nailed down, ebayed them and used the university's postal system to mail them out

I was in pretty good shape in college, but I knew a couple of guys who struggled. My RA pilfered a plate from every all-you-can-eat establishment in the area. So Sunday was Godfather's Pizza, Monday may have been Wendy's salad bar, etc. He would just pack the plate in his backpack, go into the restaurant, hang out in the bathroom for a few minutes, then enjoy himself at the buffet. He literally had one for all 7 days of the week so he never paid for dinner. AFAIK he never got caught.

Another guy only got $50/month for ALL his expenses (excluding dorm costs of course). So he bummed a lot of food from us, i.e. we were about to throw out old food, he'd take it, etc.. We went to the grocery store for a pre-game cookout and they had London Broil for $2/lb, so I bought him a 5 lb steak. He ate the whole thing in one sitting.
