I do a lot of little things though for him like buy him his favorite candy/beer, leave love notes, etc but that is just the usual stuff.

Doesn't he get spoiled?

Not if you've got the right SO.

Took my GF to Santorini and Naxos (Greek islands) a few weeks ago! Every moment there is one of romance.

Pics to come...

Broke up with her and told her it was me not her.

Seriously, there are many romantic things I have done from long massages (with no need for sex afterward) to cuddling to dropping flowers off at her door so she would be surprised.

But the most romantic thing I have ever done is listen to her without needing to suggest solutions for her

That's sweet. My gf and I have been too busy...we only have enough time to talk on the phone everyday =(. I really want to take her out to a nice dinner sometime soon.

I married her.

There's also a photograph of her that she really loves - it's easily the best picture that's ever been taken of her. So I had an artist turn it into an oil painting. I'm picking it up today.

That is so sweet... that you would want a painting of her! can i ask... was it really pricy? did you just hire someone locally to do it?

It was $400. I have a friend from high school who is a pretty good artist, valedictorian from a good art school and all that. I was impressed by a painting he did of his wife, so I had him do one of mine. I'm not sure if I got a good deal or a bad deal - I didn't care because he was looking for work at the time and I wanted to help him out.

When we were on our honeymoon we saw a place that prints photographs on canvas, and you could pay more to have it photoshopped to look like an actual painting but it was still basically a printed photo on canvas. She was interested in having one of our wedding photos done like that, so I just went one step farther.

That reminds me of the artists on the streets of Santa Monica Beach that would do a fancy portrait of you for like 20 dollars. It's quick and sweet for an on-the-spot spoilage.

In the early part of our relationship while she was away at school I would mail her something about once a week.

I constructed the packaging out of cardboard, painted it with scenes of clouds and flowers and stuff and wrapped it in brown paper tied with string.

I would also make and paint cards, and poems to go along with the packages...
The most complicated was a little jewelry chest entirely hand made out of cardboard, old comic books, and other stuff.

After 8.5 years of marriage the most romantic thing I do now is come home early with the weekly shopping done, pick up something neat she'll like from the store (a chocolate bar she hasn't tried or something neat\healthy) and put the kids to bed so she can get some R&R with a bath and a romance novel

Hahahaha, how long have you been married?

Same for me, a week ago took a day off from work and spent half of it cleaning. 3 years here.

One of my wife's favs (then GF) was buying her a cat. It turned out.. odd.. especially after eating some epoxy wood filler. Now it's my cat, she says.

Man, Romance takes planning guys, not necessarily money.

My Bro-in-Law did some crazy romantic dates when he was wooing my sister.
Seriously, have some imagination.

- Scavenger hunts, with clues to the date location (dress up in a tux and a dozen roses). (my bro-in-law did this one) :Q He is too hoss/suave
- Beach picnic
- Picnic and a theatre show
- Learn a song on the guitar, and ask her to stop by somewhere because you have to do an errand and surprise her with a planned out meal and the song
- Candlelight dinner at a secluded place (takes preparation or money)
- Surprise her by making her think you are meeting for a big group thing and then show up at something totally different, and have your friend meet you later for something afterwards

Learn to surprise the girl and sweep her off her feet, but don't do it all the time, just occassionaly. Imagination and effort.

**EDIT**
Of course what is romantic at the beginning might still be romantic later on but not feasible, so romance changes with time (more of appreciation with long term relationships)

**EDIT 2**
Make sure the girl doesn't know exactly what is going to happen next.

7course meal at a fantastical French restaurant (the place my mother and father had their last memorable meal together, my mother passed away this past summer, and my girl knew, so It was kinda of a memorial of her, and a formal welcoming of my GF as the new woman in my life) followed by some other romatic activities.

I'm really curious how you (half-serious) proposed. "Will you kinda sorta marry me but not really?"

I asked her if she wanted to marry me and she said yes. After the meal, she asked when we'll be looking for an actual ring. I gave her a blank look and said that I was just joking. I did propose to her a few months later during christmas. I gave her a wrapped box that revealed a sweater and sweatpants...totally unromantic. I insisted that she try them on, so I can make sure that they fit. She then went to the bathroom to try them on, then I hear "David, can you come over here?"

I went to see that she was holding an empty ring case and a terrified look. "I was putting the pants on and this box fell. It was empty and I think I lost it."

I take the ring out of my pocket and said "but you never said yes...." She started to cry yes and held out her fingers as I gently put on the ring.

I cook her dinner, help her clean up, wake up with her when she has to get up earlier than me, compliment the way she looks, listen to her when I get home from work, give her backrubs when she's had a hard day, and just generally try to be accessible. In my marriage, doing small things like this on a consistant basis is more rewarding that grand gestures once in awhile, but those can be nice too I guess.
