I'd really like to know what gives people out there the most grief with their systems!
For me it could be ICQ, Gamespy 3D or maybe my Enternet 300 ADSL connection program.
Let it all out.....

GTD: well "smither me timbers" (or however that old saying goes), another Enternet 300 user.

It's been my biggest pain in the a** for several weeks now.

I'm still trying to find out why (with just generic MS mouse drivers loaded), that I can scroll "manually" in web pages, but the SECOND I scroll my Logitech Cordless Wheelmouse's scroll button just ONE click I get a "stack dump"... and message to close programs and reboot... but CAN'T... the system freezes and I have to do a "three finger salute"....

As long as I DON'T touch that scroll button I'm ok. I guess manually scrolling through web pages isn't TOO big of a price to pay for the awesome speed of aDSL.

It's "Shiver me Timbers" as far as I remember...old seamans term. Oh mosdef beat me to it while typing this...
The weird thing about Enternet is that it appears to run flawlessly on my other secondary PC, but I don't use it for extended periods of time or play online games etc.
I even got so fu*ked off with it (primary PC)that I removed my 3com LAN card and went back to a $10 Buffalo card thinking it might be the LAN card...(which I personally think is better than the 3com even taking out the fact that it is like 25% of the cost!!!)
I've been fiddling with it today (no not that - my PC) and it seems a bit better, made sure I took everything out that related to Enternet and re-installed. So far so good...but no fancy wav files when I connect or custom settings at the moment. I had a very nice air raid siren klaxon when I connected - well it was funny for me......woo! woo! All is quiet on the Internet Front now though....

I don't have problems with win98 but win98SE does give me troubles...especially that bloody shut down thing where it hangs at the very last minute....

Have heard a lot of bad things about ME so far..not a wise choice at this point in time methinks..

I would also have to say Win98. WinME is worse though, that's why I went back to Win98SE. I would use Win2000 exclusively if I didn't need 98SE to run some of my games.

Yo GTD ,,...

This ME OS was working fine for 3 days and then it started taking over and doing it's own shlt ..Good Install over SE ..It seems to have a decent Installer on it more stable than the SE installer IMO ...

Or my Favorite The beloved POS installer on Office2K Full ver.. Pffff
only 1 small error on my current setup P3@933 no BSOD or System waiting Hangs B.S.

But on 2 seperate 233's one a K6 and a 233P 64 MB each way to unstable.

Most troublesome? hmm... Micro$oft Outlook. It eats my memory like nobodys business. ICQ crashes alot under win2k as well... and both IE and Netscrape both suck. of course, I am forced to choose, so i go with IE

Outlook and ICQ, well outlook express actually.

I refuse to use Outlook (I use Eudora Light 3.0.6 dead simple does nothing about email...very old version to never given me a problem)

Unfortunately I have to use ICQ...all my friends use it as their messanger of choice...

A lot of people mentioning Outlook and Outlook Express, seems fine for me except fairly regular errors that the server has not responded for 60 secs........?...say a couple of times a week max.

IE5 also normally no problem except sometimes occasionally failing to find the site - which it does after pressing "refresh"

I'm postive ICQ - especially the 2000 versions have some bug that conflicts with loads of other windows programs.
Could it be my Norton System Works which does actually seem to work well for me...?

Strangely enough though my mums PC has regular problems with Outlook Express....

I have actually found different Hard Disks seem to respond better than others with certain OS's within the same system. I have no idea why that would happen unless the quality of the data transfer was better?
I tested out Win98SE on a spare HD on my current system and it ran like a dream, decided to put it on my main HD and hell all sorts of problems. I went back to regular Win98 and it was fine...weird...
I even tried re-installing after formatting about 3 times but same thing each time.

I never upgraded to Office 2000 - Office 97 works very well for me and has never given any trouble whatsoever

You guys having problems with IE and OE, have you tried the "repair" option in the ADD/REMOVE programs box?
In case u are thinking wtf is he talking about, when you select "remove" first time it offers a choice - one of which is "Repair"

Gozilla.
The graphic display is done entirely incompetently and regularly managed to lock up both Win95 and ME. One day it lost a massive driver download for me and that was the end of Gozilla.
Now I use Download Accelerator instead.

Overall I do not have any serious problems with anything really except a bunch of small problems with all Internet browsers I've used. Even Opera 5 still does the good old "illegal operation" at times. along with Netscape 4.75 and IE 5.5. Oh well there is obviously nothing I can do.. lol..

ICQ, AIM... jeez feature bloat and multiple programs. Still hunting for the perfect, clean, simple, feature complete cross-service, skinnable, dockable Instant Messanger. I've played with a few websites with JAVA stuph, getting closer, but still frusteratingly young.

Windows <anything>! Even Win2k is a pain, IMO, not stability wise, just the way things are done.

ICQ comes second. 3 days ago, I setup AIM and ICQ. Within the first day I received 3 spam messages on ICQ!! Is nothing sacred?

IE/OE comes third. No application should take windows down with it! Microsoft seems to disagree and continues to "integrate" their bugs into their operating systems.

The moment Linux or BEOS becomes able to play my Windows games, is the day I delete Windows and never look back!

Win98SE and Opera 4.02/5.0. Opera is very unstable (4.02 is better in my experience, which is why I've abandoned 5 (didn't download things properly - it stopped part way thru and didn't do anything else)). Win98SE is just crap.

My least troublesome program is Calypso, my email program. I had to pay for it ($25?) but it's well worth it and hasn't crashed once.
