What's the next big thing?

Hey guys,

I'm just curious. What's the next big thing coming out? What can you not wait to get your hands on, either hardware or software?

I'm scanning the horizon and the only potentially interesting tidbit will be Athlon64 this fall, but even then I'm not all that excited after seeing some Opteron performance numbers.

Anything cool coming up?

To me, the big thing that's happening now is DVD writers. Their prices are getting low enough for mass adoption with fairly good compatibility with existing DVD products.

I know this may not seem big to some people, but to me, it is

For me, it's PCI Express and all the cards that will work with it. Athlon64 also looks cool, so does the Prescott.

BTW, is it Pres-cott or Pre-scott?

Personally, I can't wait for the following:

1. LARGE capacity DVD's. Youy know, the 40 giggers.
2. OLED monitors--hopefully larger and more affordable than the current LCD monitors
3. Notebooks to become even more mainstream, lowering prices. I'd really like to see good laptops drop below $1000 Cdn. Also, I would love to see a standard notebook platform--a small, standardized case and connectors where you could plug in and out components, including the whole MOBO if needed. More as a desktop replacement than a portable.

I would love this! But I wouldn't also mind a better battery. Lithium-ion still, in my opinion, isn't good enough. I thought Li-Ion laptop batteries were supposed to be replaced with Zinc ion or something like that?

As far as software... Doom III and Half Life 2... and I guess Quake 4, but I haven't heard anything about that till a day or two again.

Im waiting for PCI Express so i can RAID a bunch of drives and not fill up the PCI bus. Im also waiting for PCI Express for Video which will be faster than AGP 8X.
