The nicest neighborhood near me is the one across the road from my house. Probably $800k houses on an acre of land. There are nicer neighborhoods farther away.

nicest neighborhood is relative, but in general meaning nice houses with well kept yards, safe neighborhood, good schools, low crime.

I differentiate between "nice" and prestigious. There's some *REALLY* prestigious neighborhoods within a couple mile drive of me. $750,000+ and on a private golf course.
At some point I'll be building in what I consider one of the "nicer" neighborhoods in the area. All lots are 1-2 acres in size. Many of them are nicely wooded with good privacy. All the homes are unique upscale without being pretentious. Most homes are in the $250-$500k range. The people there are genuinely friendly and it's full of younger families. The school district is also one of the better ones in the state and one of the few sitting on a couple million in cash reserves. It's a 5 minute drive to the school from there, and a 15 minute drive to "the city" for work. It also backs up to a decent sized state park with lots of hiking & biking trails.
[edit]
We're about 15 miles outside of any major town so crime is essentialy no-existant.

I f'n hate the bay area. A middle class neighborhood with small old homes on small lots still runs over $1 mill per house.
