I'd have to say Kenilworth, IL would be my answer. Just a couple train stops away from my area. From the Wikipedia article:

In my home town of Wauconda, the nicest neighborhood is probably about 1.5 miles up the road from me, along Fairfield Rd down Old Oak Ct. These are very nice houses on big lots. There are some nice houses a couple miles south of there, along ivanhoe too ..(including a couple mansions with 5+ acres).

Otherwise, I think there are at least 4 or 5 cities with median home prices over 700K within 10 miles of where I live ... so there's "nice" neighborhoods all around.

Some of the nice ones near me are Lake of the Isles (lots of gorgeous houses all around that lake, especially along the north side), Edina, and Summit Ave. in St. Paul. I also have a bit of a fondness for Northeast Minneapolis, though it might not be considered "nice."
