What's the nicest thing a teacher/boss/professor has ever said to you?

We're getting towards the end of the semester, and the other day I was in a professor's office, to ask about an assignment. After I got it, he said something along the lines of "I've been meaning to tell you and (a girl from class) that it's been a real pleasure to have you in class. You've both been very thoughtful and articulate and you've really added something to class. Thank You"

Honestly, I've always done well in school, gotten mountains of awards and stuff, but that meant more than anything I've ever gotten.

When I had a data structures class, my prof called me to his office when the class dismissed. Even though I knew I hadn't done anything wrong, it was still very unusual for a student to get called like that, so I was pretty nervous and intimidated when I went in. He sensed this, told me to settle down, then asked my permission to use my work from a recent programming assignment in his classes as an example of great programming.

I'll never forget how good that made me feel.

"You are really intelligent and brilliant, but you are lazy and that is going to ruin you one day."

I will admit that I am lazy to an extent. But, I'd say 90% of my problems come from being disorganized (something I have tried really hard for years to fix), or just plain forgetting something.

Either I'm a ghost student in class (i.e. I rarely go or never say much), or I am very active and build a friendship and professional relationship with the Prof. It truly depends on the Prof and the class.

I wrote a 15 pg. polysci paper my Freshman year in what had to be hardest class ever, but since it was one of my first college classes I buckled down and tried really hard (took me about 2 weeks to do this paper, working on it every day with multiple sources of research, etc.). It was a class of about 125 and the last day of class we got our papers back, everyone was moaning and groaning of how horrible the professor graded it and how low their score was, etc. On the last page of my paper he wrote "see me after," so I went down and talked to the professor afterward and he asked if he could use the information and the argument I made on my paper in a book he was writing. Sure enough, he shoots me an email and a copy of the book the following year (for those who want to read a long boring book analyzing government policies, the book is "Success and failure in public governance : a comparative analysis.")

I got a 100% on the paper and an A+ in the class, despite my 70%'s on the midterm and final.

Oh and I switched to Information Science my next year (but don't tell the prof that ).

You'll amount to nothing. You're a disgrace to society and I hope you fail for the rest of your life!

I got a "Bravo, a joy to read. 100/100" once on a paper I wrote on Jarhead (the book not the movie) for a college literature class.

I wrote it while I was extremely hung over the day before it was due.

Also got a "You really surprised me with that presentation. A nice change from the ordinary." from my American History professor in high school. Had to make a whole class presentation (50 min) on some type of artwork (music, movie, art, etc. and relate it to American History). Got a 94% on it. I was a loner in High School and never really talked or spoke up in class. Used Billy Joel's song Down Easter Alexa and related it to what is happening with the fishing industry in the North East.

It happened yesterday, actually. My Latin American Archaeology class (which is a great class, because I love archaeology, but I suck at Latin American culture...I'm more of an Ancient Near East/Classical, but anyways). I finished the final and picked up my paper (A paper on The Pleistocene Migration to the New World after the last Ice Age), and he said that it was a really good paper for a freshman (it was a 300 level cource). He also asked if I was going to be there next year, I said yes, and he said to keep on going and that I had potential. Also said he'd call me up over the summer to do a dig with him if it came up...!!!

"I've decided not to press charges."

Nah, just kidding. I've been lucky enough to get complimented over the years by different bosses. Never from a teacher/professor.

For a backhanded compliment, nothing beats what my wife's former boss told her once: "You're pretty smart for a broad." And he was completely sincere. He was a neanderthal boss who should have been born in the 1800's when there were no rules and no laws for bosses. He would have thrived.

You broke the classes "curve". You don?t have to take the final to get an A in this class just show up and write your name on it so you don?t get an incomplete. Basically I was getting 97 ? and 100s on exams when next highest grade was 80. I always got a 20 point curve. This was few years ago in one of my undergrad CS classes. Professor Asked me to be a TA for that class the next semester.

This past semester, (my first time back to school since 1970) I did a personality paper for my psych class based on the MBTI test.
The instructor said it was the best she had seen in over 20 years of teaching psych.
Asked my permission to use it in her future classes.
She told my guidance counselor about it, (she is also a guidance counselor) who agreed that it was the best HE had seen on the subject as well.
My wife hung that paper with her notes of praise on the refrigerator like I was a grade-school kid with an A paper!

LOL I've gotten that a few time...in my Human Sexuality class I was getting in the high 90s and the rest were around an 80.

In my highschool latin class I got a 120 on the term paper we had to do. He said it was either give me a 120 or drop everyone else 20 points

Are you a history major? I'm a comp sci major, but anything I need to feel my schedule with will be history. That would be cool to go on a dig.

When my supervisor heard that I might transfer to a different department she said "I don't want you transfer. You're a hard worker and I would hate to lose you."

From my boss: "You're Fired. Please clean up by this afternoon."
From my professor: "You failed my class."
From my senior History Teacher: "Finally you're leaving for college and out of my classroom.."
