If you would call them components, I would say the cat5 and power cords snaking around the back of my desk. On the other side of the backplates it would have to be the unstoppable Seagate 9GB SCSI HDD.
Oldest part? Probably the US Robotics modem I bought back in '96 or '97 (can't quite remember exactly when). It started as a 33.6 and was later flash-upgraded to 56k. It's a hardware ISA modem that's been in 3 different systems and it justs keeps on ticking.
It's between my Zoom 56K PCI Modem (back when they used the Rockwell chipset instead of the Lucent chipset, which of course gets more driver updates than mine, but anyway...), my 3.5 floppy, and my 10 gig Western Digital HDD.
How about my old combo 3.5/5.25 floppy! That sucker's OLD '91 ish?
My scsi HD is 5 years old it's all of 768MB's running off an old sc875 card I copy ISO's and such to it to save myself costers when burning. heh yea my Burner's old too! no Burn-proof fancy burners here!
My monitor is 6 years old it came from a friends Gateway 2000 (yea back when they were called GW2K) it's the nice sony 17 incher
probably the air whizzing around the fans... time I opened the window after all these years of wretched computer addiction in a darkened room *cough cough*
The floppy which I pulled from the Gateway 2000 100MHz Pentium I bought in January 1995. Coincidently, it came with 16 megs of RAM which I sold back to Gateway for $720. I then turned around and bought two 16meg sticks of 60NS memory, locally for $1058.20. I held onto that receipt and just crack up every time I see it.
1. 3.5in Floppy (circa 1997)
2. US Robotics 56k modem (bought as an X2 modem and flash upgraded to v.90)
3. Soundblaster Live! Value (over two years old, aching for a replacement)
mikable: hehe, we got about the same old stuff in the systems..
I still have a Teac combo drive on my linux box, and an old GW2K 15" Sony monitor on it..
I had couple old IBM SCSI HDs and a DPT2144UW controller that's also about 5 years old...
but the oldest parts I have and it's still working is: 3.5" floppy drive from the 286 days!
