What's the oldest food you've eaten? I'm eating some 40 month old cake.

We had the top of our wedding cake, which is a fruit cake (and frozen can last for a long time), and broke it out this weekend. It's quite tasty. It required to be re-iced but otherwise you wouldn't know it's 3+ years old.

Ours was still good after a year, but it was a chocolate cake. I hear fruitcake can last centuries.

Believe it or not the original plan was to have it at our 10 year anniversary. I guess that's when some people have the top of their wedding cake. it's not regular wedding cake type, since the fluffy stuff won't last (which is why the top alone was fruit cake).

There were some fruit bars stuck in the back of the fridge for a good 3 years. They were frozen over, so I had to run some water over them to clean off the frost. Tasted fine.

There are some 4-5yr old sardine cans in the cabinet. Doubt I'll be trying those anytime soon.

Yes that is why many people have their top as fruitcake. But I have to ask you why 10 years? I've only heard 1 year in any discussion about the topic.

It survived your wife's pregnancy?

Got some of those "Big Stick" popsicles in my freezer. You know, those orange/yellow type bars that you'd probably buy outa the ice cream truck for a quarter and once you hit puberty start referring to them as big d1cks to tease your friends.

Got some in there for 4 years and counting. I eat one every month or so, but it started as a big bag.

And throwing them out is out of the question, eh?

reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine ate Peterman's hundred year old cake and replaced it with an Entemann's. they have a case at the end of the aisle.

on purpose? I've never consumed anything more than a few days after the expiration date.

I drank a can of 5 year-old diet pepsi on accident, though. grossest thing evar. I took a sip and spit it out immediately. after dumping it out, I checked the expiration date and noticed that it expired in the mid-90's.

I gave a 3.5 year old beer to an unwanted guest back in '95. He didn't stay long...

Edit: It was a Bud light...
