what's the point of stormtrooper armor?

It's a juvenile sci-fi. You can't take these logical questions and expect an answer when main characters neverget hit by 99999 shots.

The bad guys need to be slower. The Jedi can do somersaults and ninja style moves to dodge laser shots. Is it because they don't wear the clad amour, or is it because they are faster than the speed of light? Or is it because the movie producers don't want too many heroes to get killed off. And do you notice how the evil side takes prisoners, and the good guys only kill off the enemy. Just pointing out the obvious.

In the 60's movies about WWII in Europe, the stereotypical German soldiers were more likely to attack standing straight up. The US soldiers either crouched or slithered on their bellies. Guess who got killed more often in the movie battles.

I always figured that the Emperor was just being a dick by making Stormtroopers wear uncomfortable uniforms.

in the books they they get around it with the rebels having upgraded blasters that can blast into standard stormtrooper armor. The armor is still supposed to be advantage because it adds to accuracy, surrounding and communications. though you don't see that in the movies

My Zippo is what I miss most about smoking. It was nice having a non-explosive fire and light source in my pocket at all times. The fluid evaporates kind of fast if you don't use it regularly, so it isn't as useful if you don't smoke.

Because it strips individuality from the Empire and gives nearly all of it's people the same grim visage. Everywhere you look, that's not "Sam" or "Bob", that is the Empire. The Stormtrooper helmet along with the Star Destroyer are like the symbols of Imperial force and power. As for Stormtroopers being being useless, I find that to be a myth outside of Endor.

Looking just at episode 4, the evidence suggests that imperials are very precise. Even Obiwan acknowledges this. They are precise to the point of subtly, carefully prodding and penning their target where they are instructed to let them go, all without fatally injuring them if so ordered. This is evidenced from Tarkin enabling the Falcon to escape; He did not want them dead. He was frustrated by the lack of leads to the rebel base and decided to let leia lead them right to their back yard. This is a common imperial tactic if Season 2 of Rebels is any indication, when Tarkin and Vader used the same tactic with great success to locate the Rebel fleet. So clearly it's not just all incompetence, at any rate. Sometimes they're trying to miss.

Also, Leia is an idiot.

Faceless and nameless enemies are a lot easier to cheer for when the hero kills them.

In most of the old EU books, the stormtroopers were always pretty darn good. Decent armor, enhanced senses (sensors and communications), training plus tactics. Unless the hero was facing them. At which point movie rules apply.

I definitely agree about Leia. She contributes absolutely nothing to the series, unless for some reason one thinks fanservice is a valid contribution.
