What's the purpose of flashing the Radeon LE?

I hear that flashing the card only brings its default clockspeed up to 166/166. HyperZ is not enabled by default after the flash. You still have to use the tweaker. So is flashing the card necessary? I currently have the card running at 183/183 and hyperZ enabled using a tweaker.

You basically answered your own question. Flashing the card is more dangerous maybe more excitment in life I guess. Just kidding, flashing it suppose to get it to work like the normal Radeon DDR, but it can be achieved using a tweaker. Maybe that's the way before the tweaker is available.

Isn't HyperZ enable after flashing the card?

Edit: No you already getting it to work better than flashing it.

You have to remember, some folks would like to use the card at default speeds w/out using windows, ie Linux, and therefore, the bios flash would be of inestimable (sp?) value to them.

I thought that Hyper-z was automatically enabled when flashing the LE. Am I wrong?

The folks over at the rage3d boards seem to say that hyperZ is not enabled after the flash in d3d.

Go here if you are interested in flashing you card (LINK). BUT BEFORE YOU DO... You can get the same results just using a tweaker like the ones found at Rage3d.com (LINK). Like someone said earlier, you may need to flash to improve performance in an operating system that doesn't let you use a tweaker (i.e. LINUX). But for the most part a tweaker is safer. You won't necessarily "damage" your card flashing it, but you will have to go through the whole process of trying to reflash it back to it's original state if you mess up. Actually, I'll take that back. You may damage it if you flash the core past an acceptible clock speed, but for the most part this is a moot point.
