What's the reccomended P/S Wattage for a P3?

Hey guys, got a CUV4X, just dropped a new 866 P3 into it.
The system currently has a 250W power supply, I just wondered what's the recommended power supply
config for a Pentium 3?

I was thinking of picking up a decent 300W, but is it necessary to do so?

Thanks for your help!

It wouldn't hurt. It's good insurance for the future when you add other components (fans, hard drives, killer video cards, etc). As the system evolves, you're almost certainly going to need more power.

Look for a PS that has the additional power connector (I think it's an ATX 2.03 or 2.v12...something like that). I know the Antec 300s (and higher) supplies have it. Maybe you won't need it for this motherboard, but you'll probably need it for the next one.

Putting the power supply under stress is bad for the whole system.

Thanks for the heads up.
I think I may just pick up an Enermax 350W.
I'm gonna be dropping a RAID-compliant board in there, so I'll likely need the extra power to run the couple extra drives.

Thanks again!!

This place rocks...

I have been running a P3 450@560 for over a year and a half with an enlite 235w ps and have had no trouble. I also run 2 extra cooling fans in the case with a dual fan hsf. I would like to go to a 300w ps, but am no hurry.

A good 235W or 250W can run a p3 system fine. I use to run a p3 700@933, p3v4x, 3 HDs, SCSI CDRW, DVD-ROM and 2 case fans off a pc power and cooling 235W.

Picking up a stronger PS would be nice, but is in no way needed for that system. A 250W PS will definitely be capable of supplying the power a P3 866 needs.
