Ok I did this just for $hits and giggles...

Now running an XP1700+ Tbred "B" @5X100=500mhz but with the memory @ 200% or 400DDR and the voltage on the cpu down to 1.4 volts which makes the temp on the cpu only 6 degrees F above the case temp...

Now here is the kicker... As for Windows loading you can see a little difference but when I ran Sandra the memory scores were about the same as my old A7V133 w/Sdram and about 1/2 of what my 8KHA+ is running at stock DDR speeds... But with only 1/4 cpu speed the memory benchs at 1/3...? Dont quite understand that one...? Should they not be inline with each other...?

I had just noticed a post about underclocking and wanted to see what an Nforce2 board would do... Just kinda surprised me as to how fast that it is still...

I can boot just fine at 1.8ghz (2.4b) the lowest I can get due to 100fsb is the lowest fsb setting...I can do 1.5v as the lowest and with the board undervolting it relates to 1.43v.....Runs just fine and temps are 31c idle.....

If I could undervolt more I could likely get it in the 20's...

What motherboard...? I`m using an 8RDA+ (lowest voltage is 1.4)

Also wonder if undervolting would extend the life of a processor...? (doesnt really matter... just curious...?)

wow I tried undervolting just for fun and I had my 1700+ @ 1.4v and 1.4ghz (200x7) just for fun. For good measure, I even turned off all the fans in my system (except for the ps) and I ran prime95. I went out and I came back and the temperature was 69C!! Prime95 was still running though The temps scared me and I turned my fans all on, and temp dropped 31C, I'm at 28C full load right now btw my sys temp is 27C

So i know to keep it stable when overclocking you have to reiase the vcor voltage when it locks up. But when underclocking does it ever lock up if you dont lower the voltage enugh. Just curiuse.

on the contrary, ifyou lower it TOO much then it will be unstable
if you are underclocking, its advisable to undervolt as well (but you dont have to if you dont want to...you could even OVERVOLT if you wanted...) becuase then the cpu wont need as much voltage to function properly

my friend has his P4 chip running on 1.067GHz(8 x 133MHz )
don't ask me how he did it, i'm also surprised how he got the 8x multipliers.

I've got down to 66 x 4 = 266Mhz with my PIII-S engineering sample. Vcore was 1.15volts.

My normal speed for this CPU is 1.4Ghz. At 266Mhz Windows loaded very noticeably slower than default speed and just opening an app or window was very slow. At (66 x 8 =) 533Mhz you could still easily tell that things were slower than normal. At (66 x 10.5 =) 700Mhz Windows loaded almost as fast as default speed and opening apps and windows wasn't too much slower than at 1.4Ghz.
