What's the smallest rifle you'd feel comfortable with plugging a groundhog?

Groundhogs are a serious problem around here. For those who never stepped a foot out of the city how do you feel about rats?

The problem is not distance. The culprit lives beneath a building and keeps digging holes. The idea is to chase him out and when he shows his fury ass we're going to plug him! It will be a close shot so he must die instantly. I also don't want to see blood splattered all over the wall!

I'd have no issue with him setting up some wires hooked to a pole transformer but that could start a fire.

In any case the ground hog is going to die.

Toss smoke bomb into ground hog hole.

Stand at the exit with a 12 guage.

A 22 will do fine. Pick up a savage mark 2 bv bolt action and odds are it is capable of close to 1" at a hundred yards.

EDIT: Another choice is 17hmr and 17hm2, although the ammo is a little more pricey.

I have taken them with my GAMO SHADOW pellet rifle,.22 is actually a lil over kill but plenty enough for a GH.

we used to hunt rabbits with our SKS's, its a lot of fun, and theres not much left to worry about taking home.


a .22 should be fine. the 30-30 would be way more entertaining.

That's insane lol. Well at least it will be a painless death.

there`s a company that makes aluminum ones that are supposed to be the best, but they are like $60 a piece. they also make a plastic one for about $30 or so that is supposed to be good too. I can't think of the name now.


I got 3 eagle 30 round mags for $30 but they aren't very good quality.
