What's the Synchronous RAM speed w/a 1333FSB proc?

I have an E8400, which I will be running on an Intel DP35DPM mobo.

I will not be overclocking.

I have 4x512MB DDR2-667. With DDR2-800 so cheap, should I invest in some?

DDR2-800 is still considerably more expensive at least where I live compared to 667, so I opted for 667 instead of 800. Makes a big difference in price if you're going for 8GB RAM like me.

As far as C2D FSB goes, divide it by 4 (1333/4=333) and divide DDR2 by 2 (667/2=333), so it is 667's that work in sync with 1333FSB C2D's.

unless you are running multiple 64 bit OS's, and vmware and everything, why do you need more than 2G of memory?save the money and get a better video card/bigger disk/quality cooler/better power supply...the list goes on

I have DDR2-800 and I'm running it synchronous to my FSB at DDR2-667 speeds.
So what you can do it buy DDR2-800 or DDR2-667 and just run it at DDR2-667 speeds, since your CPU runs at 333mhz FSB. That'll make it run Synchronous \ 1:1

Synchronous speed for 1333MHz = 333MHz FSB = DDR2 667 = PC 5300. If you don't plan to OC at all there's no need to buy anything better except for potentially lower timings/command rate. Personally I'd go with DDR2 800 in case you change your mind, as it'd be a shame not to OC any C2D even mildly, much less one of the 45nm parts.

Edit: N/M just saw you were getting an Intel board. Only reason for faster than DDR2 667 would be if you planned to get a 1600MHz FSB CPU in the future, in which case you'd want DDR2 800.

I would get DDR2-800 because there are absolutely no issues with running the e8400 at 3.6GHz which would be 1:1 with ddr2-800, as long as your mobo is happy with FSB 1600

You don't have to overclock, but your ram will be ready when you are if you change your mind... I only say this so you might avoid buyer's remorse, but if you are firm on not overclocking then you don't really have to go for the ddr2-800

We're debating opinions here - but IMO I'd get some DDR2-800 JEDEC Spec'd 2 gig sticks (a 2x2 gig kit) with latency settings of 5-5-5-18 & operating voltage of 1.8v - you should be able to get that for $90 or less. You won't likely be able to use more than 3.25 or 3.5 gigs of it but it would allow easier upgrade ability in the future. You're not likely to see much performance increase over your current ram (kinda depending on what latency they operate on a little). And if you are using Vista things could go smoother. If for some reason you're worried about running 1:1 now you can always just get a 667mhz 4 gig kit but I don't really see the need for that.
