I was hit by a drunk driver this summer. Lacerated my spleen in two places and caused a lot of internal bleeding. I thought I knew pain before the accident. I had no idea.

That's what caused the 3 car pile up, I don't remember how drunk the person was...I don't remember much at all.

Oh...and in honor of the stomach virus thread that's on the front page...

Even with the broken bones, kidney stones, and various other sports injuries I've had in my life. The only time that I would have gladly ate a bullet to end the misery was a little over a year when I got bit by the Nora/Rota virus bug. I lost 10 pounds in like 6 hours. Most of those six hours were spent in the fetal position on the bathroom floor shivering.

It. Was. Horrible.

Yea man, I feel like I've lost 5 pounds already at least...

My guy ended up getting his THIRD DUI with a .23 BAC. He was sentenced to 2 years in jail but the judge stayed all of it for 3 years probation. 3 years.

emergency spleenectomy from a hockey incident. Blacked out on the way to hospital twice... didn't know the spleen was ruptured till the CT scan. It felt sort of weird... not an agonizing pain but more a constant bothersome feeling down there. 6 inch vertical scar down the middle of my stomach/abs to show for it.

Oh and apparently when I was young my elbow was dislocated on 2 different occasions, don't remember it at all. My dad also pushed me on a tricycle when I was younger and I fell on my teeth... sounds painful.

so they cut your abdomen open too right? Yeah you don't realize how many of those muscles you use just to make the slightest movements... it was a long 6 week recovery.

sprained wrist, maybe a hairline fractured pinky toe (didn't get it checked out, gets a dull ache from time to time even now, 12 years later).

i split my lip all the way into my nostril once. have a nice scar there. i tell people i was in a knife fight but it was actually a bicycle accident.

i've hit 106 on the fever at least twice in my life. fever hallucinations are the best.

Dude...there goes your street cred, yo.

I have a scar on my left hand, just below my thumb, where I took a knife away from a street thug...grabbed the dammed thing by the blade and it cut me deeply...I still came out of the altercation better than he did.

Broke the left wrist in three places back around 1991 .. fell down on the ice and I tried to stop my fall. It required internal pins and an external fixator to heal properly. Including the physical rehab, it took 12 weeks. Had a top notch orthopedic surgeon and great physical therapist. Range of motion and strength are as good, if not the same as before the break.

I threw out my back from trying to release the tension on my spine. Lamest way to cripple myself ever.

I haven't really been injured, actually.

Nothing much here: no broken bones, stitches, etc. When I was 2 1/2 (according to what I've been told since I don't remember), I fell off a piece of equipment at the playground and landed right on my head. I think I had a concussion, but my parents couldn't afford to take me to the hospital.

Since then, I crashed on my skis and hurt my ACL (not badly, but it still gives me trouble 8 years later) and got scraped up pretty well from a 20mph mountain-bike crash.

That's the best I could come up with.

I have lightly sprain my ankle a few times but other then that nothing.

More painful would have been when i slowly pulled out my finger nail after a knife had sliced 3/4s of the way into it.

Nose has been broken three different times, but that's about the worst of it.

I've been lucky. Worst I ever did was dislocate my shoulder. I was probably 9 or 10 years old and playing some game with my mother. She fell on me and my arm must have been at a strange angle and it popped out of its socket. Aside from that nothing really. I got scrapped up fairly bad once when roller blading as a kid, had scars from that for several years. I have stitches from slicing my thumb open.

Went to a Steven Wright appearance at Chastain Park in Atlanta....open air amphitheater.

ATL symphony opens up the evening for about 30-45 min. Then short intermission. I take the opportunity to go back to car to fetch some more snacks and drinks for the show.

Just as start back, hear applause and lights go down. Crap!

The parking lot is a two level affair and I'm parked on the upper level and about as far away from the front entrance as I can possibly be. Start back quick walking.....and look at the drop between the upper and lower parking levels. Going down right then would save a minute or two of walking, so I go for it.

About halfway down the earthen embankment between the two levels, which is at about a 30 degree angle or so, I hit a root and fell forward.

I hit the rear end of a car as I pitched forward. Broke the taillight out. Almost completely amputated my nose off my face.

This was the only time in my life that getting hit made the saying "seeing stars" come true...damned near fainted.

Then the blood faucet got turned on.

Oh well, got up and walked slowly with my head sticking forward extremely, to keep the pouring blood off me, and made it to the fire truck at the entrance of the parking lot.

Then....ambulance.....hospital.......4 1/2 hours of plastic reconstructive surgery....two days in hospital.....released with 100 Tylox.

And I never got to see Wright.

where's the guy that fell into the vat of molten asphalt?

he wins this thread.

Yeah that would win any thread. Burns are the worst thing imaginable. Actually the recovery from the burns in a burn unit is supposed to be some of the worst of it (scrapping off all the dead skin!!!!!). Burns from molten asphalt across a significant portion of the body? D: I don't even want to think about that. I think I remember reading something about that once too.

Edit: ahh thanks zim. Yeah I cringe just reading that!

The burns really didn't even hurt if you can believe it, it was the intense debreeding (scraping off dead skin) and physical therapy that make me cringe when I think about it. I passed out so many times from the pain I can't even remember... was also on so much morphine my heart stopped in the middle of the night on the first night of treatment. Took me a long while to step myself off of the drugs and had minor withdraw symptoms as I was given different, lower level opiates to manage the pain. I had to relearn how to walk and to this day (this was 13 years ago) if I'm on my feet standing still longer than 20 minutes they start to tingle like they fell asleep.

did a faceplant on a gravel road while riding my 85 CR 80 when I was 15. top speed, loose gravel, made it to a curve, bike started to slide. i panicked, hit the front brakes, flew over the handlebars and did a face/hands slide for about 20 feet.

open face helmet, no gloves........

could see the bones in the palms of both hands, fractured my wrist, lots of gravel stuck in my face. good times.

walked to a farmer's house with my buddy's help, he didn't want to let us in at first but did eventually (i was bleeding everywhere). he led me to his bathroom and had me dunk my face in hot salt water, and my knees went wobbly from the pain. then my Dad showed up and bitched me out all the way to the hospital. still have a decent scar on my chin and one on the side of my nose.

that's bizarre - I did almost the exact thing on an '83 ATC250 Big Red ATV back in the early 80's. The similarities end after walking to farmer's house though. They called my Mom, she called my Dad at work then took me to the ER.

I had no helmet on. It could have easily crushed me. Several scars, nothing broken oddly enough but blood everywhere and scabs galore for weeks afterwards.
