Whats up with my network?

I have a computer that will not work when connected to a hub, network led wont light up, triend 2 hubs, when I use a crossover cable it works! whats up with this?

are you plugging into the crossover port or uplink port on the hub? also have you tried plugging into different ports on the hub?

i used staight through cable to connect to hub and yes tried diff ports and yes the hub does work.

Sounds like a bad straight-thru cable. Try using the x-over cable into the uplink port on the hub.

oh i forgot to mention i tested the straigh through cable, and also tried diff one.

May be that your hub is having trouble finding the proper speed for your NIC. Try to manually set NIC speed to match the hub instead of auto-detecting.

Good idea from cz. In addition to speed settings, make sure you are at half-duplex.

but the weird thing is the same computer worked on the same hub before a format i did.

Format eh? Did you reinstall the OS?
Seriously, are you using latest drivers?

Maybe it is a loose nut on the keyboard?
