Whats up with overclocking my memory more?

I'm running an 8rda+ at 200 fsb and memory is 100% at 200 ( 5-3-3-2 ). I know this ram can do more, but if I set the memory at 120% or 240mhz ( 7-3-3-2.5) it won't even post for me. I thought, hey maybe the ram isn't as good as I thought, but I set the fsb at 183 and memory at 120% or 215mhz ( 7-3-3-2.5 ) and still didn't even post!

So the question is... Do these boards overclock something else along with the memory so that it won't work ( like the northbridge or whatever )? I can't picture my ram not being able to do 215mhz, so what the heck is limiting me?

By the way this is one stick of Twinmos pc3700 running at 2.77 volts, and was reviewed to go past 250mhz easily at 7-3-3-2.5.

Maybe you are also changing your pci/agp bus so your pci devices may be failing.

Reviewed speeds and actual speeds will vary. Probably the reviewed stick was picked so it could get a higher score.

Anyways, if the stick can't even do PC3700 (466 mhz) you should consider RMA'ing the stick or exchange for a different brand.

It wouldn't change my pci/agp because they are locked.

I understand that the stick may not be as good, but it wasn't even able to do 215. I dont think there is any way this stick isn't able to do 215 at relaxed timings when it does 200 at tighter timings.

Is there any thing else that could be happening. I can't understand what the problem is.

That shouldn't be the problem.....the 8RDA is an Nforce2 board and should have the PCI and AGP locked.

What revision 8RDA are you using? Most of the early 8RDA boards couldn't make it to 200 FSB, much less higher. My 8RDA doesn't like anything over 190-195 FSB, and alot of it goes back to the Northbridge and it's lack of voltage. People who modded the voltage to the NB (give it an extra 0.2v or so) have been able to hit 220 FSB or higher.

I think the NB is the problem, and not the RAM.

I went back and tried it again, and I could get it to run at 180fsb and 216mhz ram 120%. It wouldn't go any higher.

My board is happy to go at 200, but no higher. I am not increasing the fsb, but only the memory ratio to overclock my memory more. Does doing this overclock anything else that would lead to more instability, or is it just plain ram not doing it?

I'll have to go back and do more testing when I have some time.

Seems like your RAM is bad. Can you RMA it?
