So the stock market hit bottom in mid Feb, but AMD stock has jumped 25% since then, way more than the average recovery (11% just today). Any reason for this that I'm missing?
Its the usual game before a quarter result and all the short holders win again. The stock was 3$ in late december.
Not to burst your bubble, but that's the opposite. People dispose of stock prior to earnings as the data is generally received well beforehand.
AMD trades off of DX12 benchmarks
Yeah, Fridays can be screwy due to Hedge Funds playing games with options. AMD is a favorite of gamblers/day traders for some reason as well.

I heard it traded on Zen IPC uplift over Carrizo...
got in with telsa ~a month back at 150, tsla has been good to me before. I might play with amd at next surge or up to Zen, depending on rumored performance / beta silicon, but otherwise too unpredictable for my taste.
edit : note to self, get into some VR related stock soon.
Thx, yea it bottomed out at ~145 IIRC, it was quite obvious that there was a lot of hysteria in the market .. as it turned out it wasnt the dreaded double dip after all.
TSLA can be quite volatile too, being what it is, the promise of an unlikely revolution happening before our eyes, managed by the brilliant entrepreneur who wows to, besides awsome electric cars to produce the Mars Colonial Transporter. Is it maddness? If it is then its madness playing out in front of us..
Point being, volatile stock, Musk is a good bet = money to be made.
Clearly! 40% is serious money. Would love it if every one of my investments could return 40% in a month's time; I'd be ready to retire in a few short years in that case
Not with the rate you buy new hardware, specially phones!
Nice job, TSLA has been something of a rocket lately. Glad you were able to capitalize on a nearly 40% move!
Option friday or black sabbat in the middle of the month?Yeah, Fridays can be screwy due to Hedge Funds playing games with options. AMD is a favorite of gamblers/day traders for some reason as well.
It works both ways, as long as there is volatility. Its the usual game before a quarter result and all the short holders win again. The stock was 3$ in late december.
AMD has a history of pre-earnings runups. But so do many stocks. Not to burst your bubble, but that's the opposite. People dispose of stock prior to earnings as the data is generally received well beforehand.
