I doubt the mods have access to any back-end stuff. I would imagine some of the staff does and Zuni has probably been paged/called whatever. You gotta remember its a saturday night.

The forum#, www# and subscriber# servers are Windows boxen that run IIS. The load balancers run Linux.

Moral: Just because you don't run windows doesn't mean you are safe. Security is YOUR responsibility!

I don't think that only the load balancer was hit, I think whoever the hacker was they didn't bother to block out all the sites, since most people aren't smart enough to know their's more than one way to access anandtech or the forums.
