back in college, i poked a couple of holes in one of my guy friend's condom (the one he kept in his wallet) with a pin as a practical joke. i admitted it to him a few years later...and thankfully, he didn't get anyone pregnant or catch a disease.

I think the staple is only there to hold the ribbon's shape. If you look at the bottom right condom you can actually see the staple not going through the condom. If I had to guess, I would bet the ribbons are stapled, and then glued to the condom.

I agree. Unless you have a picture of the back of the condom packages I doubt they are stapled through them.
