Yep, you sure do. (BTW, didn't you write V1000 plus in your previous post?) Add another one to the group of people with low 8800GTX temps and a 120mm fan exhausting or intaking air over the GFX cards.

C'mon folks, post up your 8800GTX temps and cases and whether or not you've got a fan over your cards.

I think we're on to something here.

Oops, yeah, sorry, I meant V1100 Plus, not V1000. I'll edit it to avoid confuision. Thanks.

Cool. (Literally) How large a CPU heatsink do you think would fit in the V1100 Plus? I'm always concerned with heatsinks hitting the PSU compartments with inverted MOBOS and I've got my eye on a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.

My case is a really old Antec similar to the design of the one in the link. Mine doesnt have any blow holes and doesnt have the door over the drive bays, its a basic case with 2 80 mm intake and 2 80 mm exhaust. The thing that dropped my temps was using Riva and setting the fan speed to 85%.

My 8800GTS idles at 50C with load temps ranging from 58C to 60C (60 C to 62 C on hot days like today). That's with a Thermalright HR-03 Plus with a 80mm fan @ 2500 rpm. I've also noticed that with the HR-03 Plus, it doesn't matter if I leave the case side panel open or closed.

K, since RivaTuner is now compatible with everything, I checked out my temps recently.

Idle: 77
Load: 87

I live in a dorm though, so no AC, and it's HOT in here. I have a V1100B Plus, but I don't think I have enough intake air. MADMAX - do yo have your back fan as an intake or exhaust? Also, what CPU cooler do you use? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Checked your sig. I have a Zalman 9500... if I orient the back fan as in intake, how should I orient my CPU cooler?

allies; sorry to get you confused....I do not own a LIAN LI V1100 PLUS, I build high end systems for people.....and that case was the one I used in my latest build. In fact it's the "defacto" case I use although clients can select others.

The CPU cooler that I used is the Intel stock cooler controlled by SpeedFan....(my client's choice) temps never went beyond 55ºc under Prime 95 small FFTs test. CPU: QX6700.

The rear fan is intaking air from the outside. The side fan, exhausting.

Hope this helps!!

Maybe we should also be looking at our overclocks as well. I've now backed down to 638/2014 and am rock solid stable in every game I play. I'm at idle now and my case fans are backed down to around 30% for quiet. My CPU is at 45 C, System is 46 C and my GPU is 69 C with the fan at 85% (and inaudible).

It doesn't make much sense that a blower fan would help as much on an 8800GT(S/X) than on other cards. Mainly because the 8800 has a blower fan system already on it. All it'd be doing is pulling a little extra air over the 8800 almost acting as another cooling system rather than pushing out the warm air that's blown off the card like most other standard HSF cooling systems do.

EDIT:

Just to clarify, I don't mean that you're lying, I just don't think a blower to help a video card with a blower will be as effective as a video card with a standard HSF.

The 8800GTX actually dumps a LOT of warm air into the case via its vent holes midway down the card. I've seen people try to cover them up to direct that air out of the case, only to get worse temperatures - the fan wasn't pushing the air far enough through. The slot blower does legitimately help a great deal, as it gets pretty warm under the card otherwise (at least for me).

My 8800GTX is idle @58C; play dvd video @61C; gaming @66-68C; GTX fan is in automatic mode.
I am using Antec P180 case; rear and top 120mm fan set to low; front 120mm set to medium; bottom chamber 120mm set to medium. One Antec regular pci slot cooler installed in the pci-e x1 above the GTX to cool the NB. One Antec Super Cyclone below GTX set at medium to expell the excessive heat. Taped off the case holes above the expansion slots so hot air won't re-enter the case. Cpu heatsink is thermalright HR-01 with 120mm fan running 800RPM...no tube attached.

cpu= idle @36-37C; load @41-43C; mb=idle @ 29-30C; load @32-33C.
pc locates about 2 feet away; during day time I cannot detect any noise from it. Past midnight I can hear it very low whisper; if tv on on low volume I can't hear my pc.

My system:

Pentium D 945
8800GTX
creative extrememusic
2xHD raid 0
1xHD
2xdvdrom
corsair HX620W PSU

you can try to do this; remove the GTX heatsink plastic over; then use this

temp will drop amazingly.

NV monitor says 52 idle. Card is the BFG 600/900 OC version.

My case has 2 exhaust fans, 1 out the back, and one out top. I have also added one more 120mm fan as an intake fan that blows directly over my HD, and continues over the top and bottom of the video card. Seems to work well and does not take up any extra pci slots. Fans are on low speed. No idea of rpms since my mobo only has 1 extra fan

I have to admit cable management was a serious issue with the p180 case. I ordered the pc preassembled, and it was a mess. After re-arranging cables, and adding the intake fan, I noticed a considerable difference in case temp.

just uninstalled 158.18 for vista 64-bit; and reinstalled 100.65 driver. Indeed, the 158.18 driver increased GTX idle temp about 6-7C; with this driver the idle is 66C. The 100.65 driver idle at 59-60C.

Maybe the increased in temperature is a result of higher performance? But I don't want performance in 2D.....

I seem to recall that the 8800GTX has no 2D mode and that it always operates in 3D. Thus, it is more accurate to refer to the card when it is not running games as being in "idle."

As to the 158.18 driver increasing your temperatures, a more likely explanation is that the driver raised the auto fan setting rather than stressing the GPU or RAM on the card for greater performance.

well i just had to join this forum to say THX SO MUCh ahaha now i know im not alone in my heat issues luckily i looked at some of the cooling methods people used in this thread and managed to get my idle down from 74 to 57 C by adding a fan above the video card , and its some crappy fan i stole from another case and its attached by string but it works (ill secure it better later...)

so final results with an addition of a simple fan above the vid card
idle 57-58C under load 66-69C

oh and probably worth mentioning the nividia drivers suck and dont turn on the gpu fan till the thing gets super hot so im running it on fixed 80% using rivatuner
