How about per person? that is the best measure.
Straight Talk $49/mo. Its not "unlimited" per se if you are a heavy user, but I like the fact I will never be charged extra fees if I blow the limit.
I like how with Verizon I could come on here and say "I pay $44/mo per line!" but in reality I've blown minutes a few times, I could really only call other Verizon phones, so it was restrictive AND I was probably paying more like $55-60/mo for a dumb phone with no data plan and fees out the wazoo. No Thanks.
While I tend to agree with your statement... I had been a long time ST customer of 5 yrs and loved the no-commitment unlimited txt/talk/data of ST but it was severely annoying at times when I would magically find out my service lapsed (even though I have auto-refill) and my phone would magically issue me a new number and people wouldn't be able to reach me.
After having this happen to me three or four times and unsuccessfully be able to find non-GSM phones (verizon uses CDMA) in the store that I could purchase to guarantee my "piggy-backing" on a network with ST would be done with verizon (since their coverage is great) I went into the verizon store and explained my concerns and questioned my options...
They wanted to wrangle me into a whole two-year contract etc etc etc.. I said no. They said I could get the pre-paid option and get a nicer phone and do the auto-bill pay I asked if I could get it for the same amount as ST, they claimed there's was $50/mo not $45/mo, so i asked what else they could give me to make up for the difference... then.... I got something not even ST offers, they volunteered to install the verizon backup assistance utility on my phone, which backs up all my stuff at a interval set by me (which is pretty darn useful if you've ever lost/damaged your phone and needed to move or keep all that stuff...)
Oh one important thing.. their data is not unlimited but it is a pre-paid plan, it comes with 300MB month. which is more than enough for me as I only use my phone to txt and talk. maybe a photo or two but nothing extreme to go over 300mb. so for an extra $5 more than I am used to paying I am glad to gain the feature of backup assist app.
