Lately, mostly DIY projects around the house. Currently working on finishing up my shed that I started last year before it got too cold. Next project will be building a deck.

I'd like to get back into coding, have not really coded anything in a while but have some projects in mind like improving my monitoring/automation system. I also want to get into electronics. Mostly digital stuff like microcontrollers but also want to get into power electronics. Like SMPSes and stuff.

Once the shed is done and that my stuff is organized in it, one project that I will also take on is finishing my garage. Right now it's not insulated or conditioned and the floor needs to be redone. I really want to turn it into a shop that is climate controlled so I can build stuff in it any time of the year. Once that is done I will probably expand a lot on my hobbies.

For me, it's currently photography
I went through that one, before digital photography existed. Dark room, bulk film loader.

I'm still a great photographer, IMO. My consciousness expands when I have a camera in my hand. But it's not a hobby. I don't believe in hobbies. I believe in passions and I can be passionate about many things.

My greatest focus for many years is my voluntary work as a college radio DJ. It's boundless, the satisfaction is without end.
Collecting photos of other people's excessive collection habits. Like Legos and comic books.
I don't believe in collecting anything.

I do some mobile phone security stuff still yeah, but I got a job because it was a hobby first, and continues to be one

What sucks about that kind of stuff is often as you move up in the working world.... It always seems to slowly shift us more and more into a management type role as we move up. Before you know it, everything you once enjoyed about your job initially is now something you never do

And it sucks, because I'm not turning down that kind of pay increase....

Yeah, luckily I have a good mix where I am now. I manage about 8 people, but half of my time is billable on the more hardcore projects. It had the effect of cutting out the cruft and leaving me with the good stuff, but nothing good lasts forever

That's why you refuse management jobs, its not like they're forcing you to apply, the job posting comes up and it's there. Just don't apply. I know personally I would hate to do management, I rather do the actual work. Management is more logistical and tedious legwork type stuff. Meetings and what not. The pay is better though so I guess if I felt I was qualified for a management position it would still be tempting to apply I guess. Management is non unionized though so they can let you go at the drop of a hat. Restructuring, etc. At my company most people who get laid off are managers.

My last full time job the owner of the company was booted out. She started the company working on her breakfast room table. She eventually lost control by teaming up with other companies, presumably for financial support, maybe partly for technical support. She was ousted. They eventually ousted me, I guess I wasn't as necessary as I once was... they started going in a different direction, technically.

I've never been in management. The idea of having power over other people makes me uncomfortable. But except for the job I mentioned, none of my others gave me any security at all. And the security I had there fizzled.

My company (fortune 20) just laid off a ton of directors. You know how big companies have like 50 directors, 20 sr directors, and like 10 VPs? Yea that's ours.

Middle managers and contractors are always first to go.

Either computers or cars. I bounce between the two. Been like that for over 20 years.

Genealogy. Signed up for an ancestry.com account and mapped out about 5 generations of my family. Not many friends/family seem to care since I’m only in my 30s and genealogy tends to attract an older crowd.

My Mom's Mom was adopted and her Mom was the same so it was interesting. I've always thought that "they" were part of the orphan trains. The tests show that they're Scots/Irish. My Dad's side is documented, by the fam, to the land grants to the upstate of S.C. and the tests connect me to cousins in that area that I have met.

So white bread instead of @Thebobo brother from a different Mother.
