I expect a mediocre phone that typical hipster wanna bes will kill for.

Seriously, just a larger version of updated iPhone. Sapphire crystal us a good call. I wouldn't buy ant modern watch without sapphire crystal. Very durable.

Bigger screen. Processor speed on the order of whatever the fastest thing around is at the time. I think it's a toss up on the sapphire front glass. I'm kind of interested to see how much more scratch resistant sapphire really is. I don't really expect much else.

I expect a bigger screen, but in order to make it not look like they're backtracking, I also expect special UI features to support the bigger screen.

I'm also expecting some passive-aggressive statements
"Oh we have a treat for you! As you know, we always want to provide the best user experience. We have engineered the size of our devices to just the right size. Simply making unwieldy sizes and expecting users to "deal with it" isn't what we do. We have carefully studied various devices sizes and usage models <blah blah blah> to come up with the BEST solution. Introducing the new iPhone devices and the <blah blah UI marketing name>"

Or something like that.

I expect a stock split that gives me 7x the number of Apple shares as my current holdings, I expect much higher iP6 sales than the gloom and doom analysts predict (AGAIN!) a higher dividend per all those new shares, and I expect to fall in love with Apple all over again.

It might be slightly more scratch resistant but its a lot more brittle.

Its a lot more expensive however so I don't really see a lot of gain.

this is what a lot of people dont realize about sapphire, yes its really scratch resistant but its super brittle. most phones using GG or some other equiv dont really scratch that badly unless you take sandpaper to them

dropping your phone onto pavement is what generally kills them. edge impacts suck for glass of any kind. edge impacts were less of an issue when phones had large bezels but as they get smaller and smaller edge impacts get more common (IP5 with front and back glass with close to no protection)

and yes it does cost a lot more. anywhere from 5-10x more depending on which news article you are reading. I dont think we will see a IP with a sapphire display anytime soon, an iWatch however may have it, rumors are they are working on it. Smaller display and a watch is something you want to not scratch. and you could get away with a more brittle display as it would not have as high of a drop chance vs a phone

Here's a list of things that I'd like to see or generally expect.

  • New SoC that's only slightly more powerful, but has better battery life.
  • Increase in storage space with 32 GB as the new starting point.
  • Slight improvements to camera, but no change in MP count.
  • No increase in the amount of RAM, but they might move to LPDDR4.
  • New 5" model, either using the same pixel density as the iPad, but keeping the resolution the same. They may double it to create some kind of super retina (i.e. 2272 x 1280 @ 5"), but that might wait another year. They'll call it the 6X and it will likely cost more.
  • iOS 8.0 with a lot of improvements aimed at utilizing their 64-bit SoC.
  • Addition of 802.11 ac wireless support.

I'm more interested in what they've managed to do with the OS more so than what hardware they will announce. iOS 7 has some great features, but there are still some parts of it that need refinement. I expect that most of the best features will be software based, rather than dependent on whatever new hardware Apple releases.

When I see that I will believe it, but not until.

It will eventually. I suspect it will be this year since Apple has been producing 128 GB models of the iPad for a while now so they obviously can get the chips for it and may have been waiting for production to ramp up enough to support demand.

Jeez that would suck. Those 64bit chips need 2GB so bad it hurts.

Generally iOS seems to do fine with less RAM than other OSes use. I would like to see 2 GB, but I don't think it will happen. Perhaps if they can get enough efficiency gains out of other areas, but one of the reasons that Apple uses less RAM is to use less battery life.

I thought the same also, until I booted up my S4 for the first time after coming from an S3. Saw the same when I first booted up my Note 3, also when I booted up my S5. Not saying it "needs" it, but I can see a huge difference.

1080p is actually nicer than 720p although it's not like 720p is bad. I'm withholding judgement on 1440p screens until I can see them in person.

The 2560 x 1600 res on my tab pro 8.4 is too small. I cant see anything higher than 1080 on a phone being useless as it will be too small.

Exactly the same as others... I was one laughing at the idea of a 1080p screen on these relatively tiny devices. (As.compared to TVs and such).

But my N3 screen is so much better than my N2's screen was that it completely changed my mind. If the tech exists and its can be implemented practically, then why not move forward?

If the base model doesn't come with 32GB of space at the current 16GB price I'm moving to android.

Also hoping they still have a 4" phone, but I wouldn't mind them releasing other sizes in addition.

It'll be the perfect size. (whatever size it happens to be)

Only if it's no bigger than the 5s, I wish the 5s had stayed the same size as every previous model. I'll be getting one if it's 5s size. A dream would be them going back to the old screen size, but that ain't going to happen. Any bigger and I won't even consider it.

If its 4.7-5.0 in I'll buy. If not I might consider the next Nexus. I really do like my iPhone barring some random annoyances that I prefer Android for.

To be honest, all of the phones are almost the same to me nowadays. I use it to text, call, facebook and instagram 98% of the time.

FIFY, iPhones have trended old and less hip for years now.

Many hipsters I know use Windows Phone.

Oh no, I have a Windows Phone, please tell me I'm not becoming a hipster.

On topic - the bigger part, sure, at this point if Apple doesn't it might lead to people jumping out of buildings in despair.

My hail mary prediction - wireless charging using an Apple proprietary charging standard, the links with an Apple proprietary NFC standard to make wireless docking the new thing.
