Depends on my mood, but I consider Bach to be the finest composer who has ever lived. Musical Offerings, Goldberg Variations always offer something new to the listener every time they are heard. Many others compositions too.

Oooh, this would be either Bach's Double Violin Concerto Vivace, or Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba (it has such an addicting riff, er lik, err... melody)

Ever since the time we listened to it in my Music History class as a senior in high school, I've liked Franz Liszt's "Les Preludes" a lot.

Is anyone familiar with Beethovens Ninth Symphony?

The local concert hall has it playing soon, but I am not familiar with the piece. How would you describe it?

Hard to describe it, you just have to experience it. Have you ever heard the "Ode to Joy"? It's in the fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th...

If you have an opportunity to experience the performance, go for it.

Interesting.

I think i'll pick up some tickets next week. I have always thought that live music performed by a talented orchestra is one of lifes great indulgences.

Thanks for the info.

Some of my favorites...

Vivaldi - Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera. You absolutely must listen to this piece
Bach - Erbarme Dich (from St. Matthew's Passion). If you can find this with James Bowman.... WOW!!!
Pergolesi - Stabat Mater, Salve Regina. Quite possibly one of the most profound creations I've ever heard.
Mozart - Requiem, specifiically the Confutatis, Kyrie, Aeternam, and Lacrymosa.
Mozart - Piano concertos 20, 21, and 23.
Beethoven - Piano sonata 14 (Moonlight), 8 (Pathetique)

There are so many more, but these are what immediately came to mind. If you can find anything with Christopher Hogwood conducting, Emma Kirkby as soprano, or James Bowman as countertenor, buy it.

Classical song, eh? Would that be an aria? recitativo? leider? (sp?)

Seriously... there are way too many favorites for me. I'll add something not already mentioned: JS Bach oboe music... especially in the cantatas is either pure brain candy or leaves you exhausted from the emotions it stirs (e.g. Cantata 202, 56, 82, 199 etc).

Rossini?s William Tell Overture -

It's a nice piece, and if anyone is old enough to remember "The Lone Ranger", it takes on even more significance.
